Chapter 2: New Friends

You were a bit taken aback by his response as your cheeks burned a little with your remaining embarrassment. "Uh, I use Partner Transfiguration magic."

"I see. That's pretty difficult magic. I take it this means you already have a partner or familiar of some kind?"

"Yes I do." You reply quickly as you open the bag you had on your back. You pull out a sleeping rusty blackbird wearing a ring around its neck like a collar. It wakes up, blinking sleepily as it looked around. "This is Nox. He's my familiar." you say as you lift your hand to make it easier for Nox to perch on your shoulder.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Nox. I'm Makarov and I want to welcome both of you to Fairy Tail."

"Thank you Makarov." Nox squawks, prompting a look of surprise from the old master.

"You can talk?"

"Yes, the ring is enchanted to translate for him no matter what I turn him into." You explain quickly. Makarov smiles and goes with you to see Mirajane at the bar counter for your guild stamp.

You spot Mirajane wiping down the counter. Mirajane spots the two of you as you walk over to her and she smiles. "Hello Master. Hello (f/n). Everything alright?"

"Yes Mira. (f/n) here just needs her own guild stamp." Makarov says with a big grin which is soon shared by you and Mira as well.

"Alright then. Now (f/n), you'll need to tell me where you want it and what color you want.

"Hmmm..." After thinking for a bit, you decide and say "How aboouuttt...right here (you point at the lower left side of your neck) and can it be (f/c)?"

Mirajane beams at you "Certainly." Two seconds later, you had a brand new Fairy Tail guild symbol. It took everything you had to not squeal with glee. Your grin threatened to tear your face in two.

Having received your stamp, you decide to go tell Levy the good news. You spot her sitting at a table with a girl with bright red hair wearing armor and a girl in shorts and a blue bra with long brown hair holding a beer. You head over to the table. As you approach, Levy notices you and gives you a wave. "Hello there. Did your talk with the master go well?"

"Yes it did. Thank you for asking Levy! Check it out!" You point at your new Fairy Tail stamp. "I'm one of you now!"

"That's great (f/n)! Oh! I'll introduce you all." Levy stood up to stand on your right to introduce you to the two girls.

This is Erza. Erza Scarlet. She uses requip magic." Erza smiles "It's nice to meet you (f/n)."

"Nice to meet you too Erza."

"And this is Cana Alberona. She uses card magic." Cana waves "Welcome to Fairy Tail (f/n)."

You give them a warm smile. "It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm (f/n)(l/n). And this is Nox, my familiar."

"Nice to meet you all." Nox squawks and gives a little bow.

Cana asks "So (f/n), what kind of magic do you use?"

"I use partner transfiguration magic."

"Uhhh...what's that?" Cana asks with a slight tip of her head. It's not surprising that she doesn't know it, it's pretty rare magic. There's maybe ten transfiguration mages in Fiore right now.

"Basically, I can turn any living thing into any other living thing. The more willing the participant, the better it is and the longer the effects last. I can sometimes do multiple transfigurations at once if all are willing."

"Really? Isn't that a bit exhausting?" Levy asked with interest. But you just shake your head no.

"The energy drain is based on how much I am changing them rather than how many individuals or how long they maintain the form. The magic never lasts more than 30 minutes on its own though. If the individual has their own magic, they can use that to maintain the form I give them using their own power."

"And...if they're an unwilling participant?" Erza asks, her curiosity was written all over her face.

"I can still transfigure them, but it's more taxing energy-wise and doesn't last as long. Especially if I'm making them something very different from them and if they have magic. But that's why it's called partner transfiguration. I can't use it on myself so I need to have someone with me. Thus, we are known for having familiars with us everywhere we go. I cannot use my magic properly without a willing participant. So, Nox is my first choice for it. I can still fight on my own though."

"That is so cool!" Levy cheers, excited to learn more about their new guild member.

As you sit with Levy and enjoy chatting about them and their many adventures. They get around to telling you about your fellow guildmates and a few of them stop by the table to say hi. Before you know it, the sun is starting to sink over the horizon. You smile to yourself, stand, stretch, and thank everyone for the warm welcome before heading off to your apartment for the night.

The night air feels great against your (s/c) after being in the hot guild hall for the past few hours. 'Today was so fun! I only wish he'd been there.' you think to yourself as you wonder why your friend hadn't been at the guild. As you walk, you think back on the last time you and your friend spoke. It was several months ago at the bar you used to work at in Magnolia.
