CHAPTER TWO

"LAND HO"

***

"SO, LET ME get this straight. You're a wizard. My daughter is a witch. My other daughter is a squib, and that moving stuff around when Kai was younger...was her just showing her magic?" Andrea Morena questioned. Kai's mom had been interrogating her dad for the last hour that Kai never thought she'd get her questions in.

"Yes. But Kai isn't going to Hogwarts." Her father retorted.

"Why not? Shouldn't she get control of her powers?" Her mom argued back.

"Well, yes. But it's dangerous. I left after the first war. A second one will come soon and I will not have my daughter in the middle of it." He said. Her mom looked confused at the thought of a war and her father explained everything to both Andrea and Kai. He told them about the 'Boy Who Lived' and Voldemort. Both stupid nicknames in Kai's opinion. The thought of Voldemort scared Kai, but she wanted to know about her powers.

"How about we ask Kai about this. It's her power. It should be her decision." Her mother insisted.

"Fine."

Her mom and dad looked at her, waiting for an answer.

"I want to go."

August 21st

KAI HOPPED OFF the boat, happy to touch the ground again. As much as she loved the sea, it was nice to be on land.

"We need to get your supplies, Kai," her father grumbled, still mad that she was leaving, "we don't have all day."

"We kinda do." Kai retorted, smirking.

Her dad rolled his eyes noticeably, which made Kai roll her eyes. They started to head to a place called 'Diagon Alley.' All Kai could think about were these weird wizard names. They entered a bar called The Leaky Cauldron and went straight to the back. Her dad tapped on the bricks like it was engraved in his memory. Kai finally realized something though while standing there. Her dad was crazy. Who taps on bricks randomly? After a couple moments, the bricks started to move. Kai's eyes widened and realized her dad wasn't crazy, it was a secret passageway. The bricks moved to reveal Diagon Alley.

The first stop that Kai made was at Gringotts, the wizarding bank. Her dad needed to get wizarding money for her. Her dad quickly explained the money to her. She didn't understand why they didn't use British money of course. Kai was also scared by the tiny creatures that worked at the bank. Her dad explained that they were goblins, which didn't settle Kai's stomach at all.

The second stop was at Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. Kai grimaced at the ugly robes that she would have to wear everyday. She frowned at her dad and when the witch who was tailoring her robes was turned, she whispered to her dad, "These robes are the ugliest things I've ever seen. And I had to live with Ara for 9 years." Her dad covered her laugh with a cough and scolded her for saying that about her sister.

The third stop was at Flourish and Blotts, a bookstore. Here, Kai got all her books required for school. The store interested her, but her father ushered her out before she got too into it. They passed by a quidditch supply store, where her dad explained to her what quidditch is. Kai loved the idea of it and decided she would try out in her second year. After that, Kai got her cauldrons and some potion ingredients. Finally, they made their last stop. It was time for Kai to get her wand.

She entered the dusty, old store with bewilderment on her face. She sat down in a chair next to two young boys who looked nervous. Her dad left her in the store to go get something, wishing Kai luck. She smiled at the two boys, twins to be exact. They had bright, red hair and matching smiles.

"Hey, I'm Kai. Are you excited to get your wands? I just learned everything a couple months ago, so I'm pretty excited."

"I'm Fred."

"And I'm George"

"And the pleasure is ours Ms. Kai." The two said in sync.

"That was so cool! Did you plan that?" She exclaimed.

The two twins shook their heads.

"Nope. But to answer your question, yes we are excited to get our wands. Are you a muggleborn?" Fred asked

Kai looked confused.

"What's a muggleborn?"

"Someone who doesn't have any magical parents" George said.

"Ah, no. My dad's a wizard. My mom's not. I just didn't know. My dad doesn't like the wizarding world for some reason." Kai replied.

"Wicked. I like your accent by the way. Are you American?" Fred questioned.

"My mom is. I've lived on a boat for my entire life so I've never heard any other accents beside my own. My dad's British, but he picked up an American accent." She said.

"You lived on a boat?" George asked.

And Kai went into her life story, making two new friends along the way.

After 10 minutes, Kai finally went to go get her wand. Her wand was made out of pear wood, with a phoenix core. Ollivander told her that the phoenix core was the rarest core type and is capable of the greatest forms of magic. Kai looked at her wand in awe. She was finally going to Hogwarts.

"I'll guess we'll see you on the train Kai. We'll save you a compartment." Fred said, leaving the store.

Kai waved goodbye to her two new friends, already excited about Hogwarts.

Kai left the store and saw her dad standing outside, holding a cage.

"What's in that?" She inquired.

"Ah, nothing. Just a little good luck present." Her dad replied.

Kai opened the cage to find a small, white snowy owl. Kai gushed at the sight of it.

"Oh, dad! It's perfect. Thank you."

Her dad smiled, but said nothing.

"I just need to find a name for you now."

EEK. Things are getting Sirius for Kai now. She's met the twins and got everything she needed. The next chapter will be here arriving at good ol' Hogwarts. Leave a comment on what she should name her owl.
