CHAPTER ONE

"BLUE WATERS"

***

Kai Morena sat on the bow of the ship. It was her favorite place to think. The blue waters pushed against the small ship, rocking it back and forth. At the beginning, Kai would get sea sick. The waves crashing against the side would make her stomach queasy. Today, Kai was perfectly fine with the waves. Her sister, however, was not. Kai's peaceful serenity was interrupted by her sister, Ara, heaved over the side. Kai grimaced at the sound (and the sight) of her sister. Finally, after multiple minutes, Ara stopped heaving and went back down to the living quarters. Kai was happy to go back to her serenity, but even that didn't last long.

When you're in the middle of the ocean, you don't see many birds. Thus, it shocked Kai when an owl swooped over her head and dropped a letter on it. Kai screamed, for she was in shock at the sight. Her father quickly came to the deck to see what the commotion was about and was shocked, not at the owl, but at the letter. His eyes widened and he quickly grabbed the letter and threw it out to sea.

"Why would you do that? It clearly had my name on it, not yours." Kai snapped.

"Trust me, it was for your own benefit." Her dad calmly replied.

Kai rolled her eyes and angrily stalked off. She was angry at her father for not only throwing away the letter, but for also littering into the ocean. She walked down to the living quarters and entered the "kitchen." It wasn't much, just a little sink and some other appliances. She wanted to ask her mom why her father was being a dick, but decided against it. Suddenly, Kai felt a wave of tiredness and decided to take a nap. She entered her bedroom, hoping that Ara wasn't having another puking fit. Sighting contently at the sight of her younger, sleeping sister, Kai fell into bed.

WHEN KAI AWOKE many hours later, she went back up onto the deck only to find multiple letters scattered all over. Her name was written on them and it even included the boat she was on. Kai quickly grabbed one and stuffed it in her pocket before her dad could see. She ran back downstairs and opened it. A funky insignia was at the top and below it read:

HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY

Headmaster: Albus Dumbledore

Order of Merlin, First Class. Grand Sorc., Chief Warlock, Supreme Mugwump, International Confed. of Wizards

Kai laughed at the long introduction for one man, but continued to read.

Dear Kai Morena,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find an enclosed list of all necessary books and equipment .

Term begins on September 1st. We await your owl by no later than July 31st.

Yours sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Deputy Headmistress

Kai looked shocked for a moment before heading to the kitchen to talk to her mom.

"Hey, mom? Do you know what this letter is?" Kai questioned. Her mom took the letter from her hands, a confused look going across her face.

"Sorry sweetie, it's probably some scam. I'd ask your dad." Her mom replied, looking a little frightened.

Kai knew she needed to ask her dad. What person would send a scam all the way in the middle of the ocean?

Kai walked back up to the deck. Her dad was sitting on the bow of the ship, excited to head to a new land.

"Dad? I got this letter again. I know you saw the others on the deck and you probably disposed of them, but I read one. What does it mean?" Kai asked her father, gingerly.

"Kai, listen to me, I know about Hogwarts. You don't want to go. It's dangerous. Yes, you are a witch. I'm a wizard. Your mother doesn't know and she doesn't need to. The wizarding world is dangerous Kai." Her father replied

"You're what now?"

Kai and her father spun around quickly to see her mom, looking mad as ever.

"Hey honey, what's for dinner?"

Hey everybody! My name is Lauryn (or Ryn for short). I'm the author of this (hopefully) lovely book. This chapter was short, but it was a bit of an insight in Kai's life at sea. The next chapter will be her father telling her mom about Hogwarts and such. And you'll see Kai getting her supplies! Also, yes, Kai is eleven. She has a bit of a potty mouth for her age, but don't worry, it'll get worse over the years:)
