"Iced Shell!-"

"What is going on?!" Axel's father shouted.

"N-Nothing father! I was just teaching (Y/N) magic..." Axel blabbered flustered.

You stopped your spell and looked at the ground shamelessly, suddenly very interested in a spec of dust in the corner. Axel's father turned sharply towards you and advanced in heavy movements.

"So you must be (Y/N) huh? I'm those 3 goofballs' father, I am so glad that you are okay." He bent down to your eye level. You timidly lifted your head up to meet his chocolate orbs while giving him a small smile. You imagined his voice to be gruff, but were surprised when it came out as soft. Almost... lovingly.

"Thank you sir for taking me in. I don't know what I would've done without you and your family." You spoke.

"Please, call me Mark. Think of us as your second family. I'm just glad you're safe." He smiled. He turned his attention back to Axel, "Where is your brother and sister?"

"I think they went out the back door to go grab a snack." Mark gave a firm nod in acknowledgement and walked away, but not before he gave you a light bump on the arm whispering "You did a great job in performing those spells, you'll might even surpass her in a few years."

'Surpass?' You thought. 'Why would I ever want to do that?' You looked up at Axel, "Thanks for everything"

His small smile slowly turned into a smirk, "Welcome to the family squirt."

6 Years Later...

You screamed at the top of your lungs as your brother Mike chased you up a hill. The people in the village, or who still remained, were used to the annual screams and laughter of you two. Today was your 13th birthday, it wasn't your actual birthday, as you don't remember; but it was the day in which you became part of their family. You and him had the idea of playing tag on your birthday, as a symbol of friendship and how you and him first met.

Millie was now 10. She was still shy with everyone else, but she was quite the opposite with you. You never knew if it was the sister bond you guys had, or how she looked up to your feisty personality, but sometimes you two will have a "girls only sleepover" in your room to gossip about the boys that passed by the town, the mages in Fiore, or tell each other secrets. She would always tease you about your tiny crush on Laxus Dreyar--a young Fairy tail mage, he was a bit too old for you, but you hoped to meet him one day.

Axel, now 18, on the other hand was very... protective of you. He was protective of Millie as well, but because of your similar personalities, you and Axel would always end up in fights. A few weeks ago, you were wandering around the market when a boy came up to you and offered to buy you the book you've been staring at the display for the past few minutes. You politely declined with a rosy tint on your cheeks, he was attractive, but you were too young to be in a relationship. Out of nowhere, Axel came up behind you and placed you behind him in a protective stance, while "teaching" the poor boy a lesson about flirting with his little sister. Annoyed, you simply rolled your eyes, smiled and waved at the boy one last time, and stormed off. You didn't talk to Axel for the rest of the day.

Your favorite part of your birthday was the cake- it wasn't too fancy, but it was a pastry that you admired beautifully. It was always layered in f/c (favorite color) frosting. It was never a tradition to smash people's heads in the cake, but Axel being Axel, would push your head down to the cake, resulting in another fight between you two. When it came to the gifts, you were always happy with what you got, you didn't care about wealth, you cared about the thought and love. You remembered that someone told you that "the simplest things in life were always powerful", but you couldn't remember who.

Your powers have been growing stronger, you managed to master most of the spells in the book, but after the events of performing the "iced shell", you felt a powerful energy, almost as if your powers were being drained, making you nervous. You and Axel never touched that chapter, nor talked about the spell.

'Maybe for another day...' You thought.
