It's been a week since Elizabeth moved to university. She's gone to her classes; her and Britt are in every class together. There's not many students in the classes, only 12 students; Elizabeth, Britt, and guys named Nathan, Jéan, Xaviér, and Kingston. The other students don't socialize so Elizabeth doesn't know their names.
"Yo Elizabeth," yells Nathan "Elizabeth! How ya doin'?"
Elizabeth has no idea that she's being called on until Nathan taps her on the shoulder, which makes her jump.
"Hey! Why didn't you answer me, Liz?" asks Nathan.
"I'm deaf, Nathan. I don't use my voice unless I'm reporting. I use ASL to communicate," signs Liz, "That's why I didn't know you were behind me."
"Oh. Sorry, I didn't know." Nathan manages to sign...poorly, but it has the form so Elizabeth understands.
"Don't worry about it, Nathan. A lot of people do that. Sometimes my own family does it. It doesn't surprise me when it happens, my disability isn't visible". explains Liz.
Liz used her voice for the first time since she started university. No one has heard her speak here, except for Nathan.

Later that day, Elizabeth leaves a note in the dorm for Britt, telling her she needs to go to the doctor.
When she gets to the doctor's office, her family is there. They say that the doctor told them some news and they need to be here for her when she finds out.
"I have some news for you, Miss Elizabeth," signs Dr. Jake, "you have cancer in your right lung."
A/N: Hey everyone! I hope you're liking the story so far! I'm enjoying writing it. How do you feel about Elizabeth being diagnosed with cancer? She's deaf, and has cancer. That would be hard to deal with if you lived in a small down like I do.
Feel free to like, comment, vote and share! It's all appreciated!
Enjoy the rest of your day and smile big!
