~Shade's P.O.V.~
We walk out of the water smiling, giggling or laughing. The kids and I sit on the beach eating the shellfish we caught. Its safe enough to eat it raw but I rather let the kids eat the cooked ones. So, we sit there talking around the fire and eating. Waiting. Waiting on my fiancé, Jacquees. We decided to come to the beach while he worked on the dock. It was much easier than staying home doing nothing. And we rarely get to have fun as a family. While we're here, Que is catching our dinner for tonight. Not just for us but the kids. They're not our kids, they're our siblings. My little sister, his younger brother and sister who are twins. None of us have parents. They all went out to sea one day and never came. I don't know if they were running away or not but they left us with a huge responsibility. In order to keep the kids together with us, me and Que have to get married. But its not like we were forced, just a rush in plans. Due to our lost as a soon-to-be-wed couple, officials gave us a larger house that fit all of us, and two months worth of food. Which was great because they dont give that to anyone and it lasted up to six months! But, of course, its gone now.
Jacquees drops two bags filled with seafood at my feet and smiles. "Look what I got."
My face lit up. "Oh my gosh! You got all of this?" I exclaim.
He nods and sits next to me to us. Its obvious that he's a good provider and he'll be a great husband. But I cant help but wondering how he got so many in such a short time. Here, in district 4, we aren't allowed to have weapons or else we get a public whipping or even death, depending on the amount of weapons. But we are able to use small knives and sharp sticks, like spears, the catch our fish. We can use hooks too.
Que and I have never spoen about having our own kids. Possibly because we worry so much about their names being called in the reaping. And we already have three to worry about and ourselves. I can never stand the thought of leaving them behind. Its so nerve wrecking to think about it. Especially how me and Que are so...intimate. i wouldn't even know if I'm pregnant right now. We can't afford protection so we dont worry about it at the time. What are we suppose to do? Put a plastic bag over his penis? But how on earth would I ever be able to say, "Que, I'm pregnant with your child."
All eyes turn on me.
He chokes. "What?"
My eyes widen. Did I just seriously say that aloud? Idiot! "No, I meant to say that in my head."
"But are you?" He asks with his eyebrow risen.
"No," I answer simply.
"Good," he says with a sigh of relief.
Yeah...good.
