Chapter Thirteen

~Eren's POV~

I sprinted out the door into the teenager-filled hallways making sure I wasn't stepped on. The halls were narrow and were definitely difficult for both Historia and Jean as I looked behind myself. As I was laughing at the two scrabbling their way to catch me, I hit head first into a pair of legs. I stumbled backwards, both dizzy and discombobulated. I stare up ready to scratch a bitch, but both my ears and heart dropped.

Mikasa and Armin.

My tail lowered as I trembled while they stared down at me in disbelief.

"Armin...I-I-Is that our cat?"

"Uh... yeah... holy crap it is!"

Armin bent down overly excited and rushed to pet me. Startled I tumbled back again only to have a foot step on my tail.

~MEOW~

Shock circling my entire body, I felt tears streaming down my face both of confusion and pain.

"Does he not remember us, Mikasa?"

"I'm not sure."

"HEY, get off the floor Arlert!"

Great timing Levi...

"Mr. Ackerman!!! Guess what! We found our lost cat! He's been missing for months, I honestly don't know why he's here at school, but his name is Eren!" Armin said with full excitement.

"What... was his name?" Levi questioned before even looking at me.

"Eren! It was written on a shirt we had found him in. Wait Levi, move your foot now!" He answered.

After hearing the answer, Levi looked down realizing he'd been stepping on my tail the during the entire conversation.

He quickly stumbled back and stared straight into my eyes. My ears flattened and my tail curled between my legs even further. Mikasa stroked my back slowly causing me to jump at the feeling.

"Let's take him to the vet, right now." Mikasa said breaking the silence, "He's unusually clean for being away from home for so long."

"Get to class now you two, I'll take him sense this is my lunch break." Levi said with no emotion.

The two nodded happily and ran off after petting once again. When the two teens were out of view, Levi harshly grabbed me by the scruff of my neck and carried me out to his car without a word. Throwing me in the passenger seat, he then took his seat and started the car. Being the scaredy cat that I am, the rumbling of the car frightened me causing me to jump into the back seat. Being as far away as I could from Levi, I felt slightly safer.

"Oi, brat. I know you can understand me. So if you respond or not, I don't care, I'm going to talk."

I nodded as he looked at me in fhe rear view mirror.

"Okay Eren, are Mikasa and Armin really your owners?"

I nodded yes.

"Did you meet after your parents died?"

I nodded again.

"Did they abandon you?"

I nodded no.

"Did you... run away?"

I nodded yes.

"Why?"

I looked down at my paws, then back at the Levi's head. I don't even know why I ran away in the first place. Was I tired of it? Did I not like Armin and Mikasa? The hell made me do it?

I covered my ears as if I was in pain and squealed before I spoke.

"I...I...don't like the concept of having a family, caring for or even loving someone. I don't like it...at all. I don't know why!"

Levi stayed silent for a few seconds then finally opened his mouth.

"Was it because of the way Carla, Grisha, and others portrayed you as a neko?"

"I...I...Yes! Yes it is! I didn't want to have that feeling of hatred inside me again...for the rest of my life!"

Levi paused once again before answering. He shifted in his seat as he parked inside the driveway. I had no idea the car ride was the quick. He hadn't driven me to or from school in what seemed like forever.

"Do you...feel that way with me, Eren?"

My heart stopped when I looked at Levi's face in the rear view mirror, he too was just about to cry. He moved his head so I couldn't see it.

"Thanks Eren. Due to your lack of speech, I already know your answer." Levi stated as he left the car and entered his house locking the door behind him.
