Chapter 8: Bait

 I decided that I wasn't going to wallow in sadness any longer. I can't bring Mikey back, I thought, but I can bring her killer to justice.

I stood up and started walking back down to the Batcave, I had to tell Batman about what she said, how John and I ruined her life.

I walked down the steps to the cave, and when I was about to turn the corner I heard people talking. "John, it's the only plan we have, it'll work," Batman's voice said.

It was John and Batman arguing. "Bats, you're bloody insane!" John yelled, "we aren't using her as bait!"

Bait? I thought, I turned the corner and coughed to make my presence known. "Hey, do we have any leads?" I asked.

"No," the Bat answered bluntly before walking back to the monitors.

"Can we have a quick chat, luv?" John asked and I nodded. We walked a little bit away from the monitors, I think so Batman would here us. "Are you ok?" he asked.

Was I ok? I thought for a minute then answered, "No."

I was surprised when he hugged me, but I hugged back. "I'm so sorry," he said.

"For what?" I asked.

He pulled away and looked me in the eyes. "For all of this, you wouldn't have powers if it wasn't for me."

"Wait," I said confused "my mom taught me most of this stuff."

"She did?" he asked.

"Yeah," I answered "she wanted me to be able to protect myself. Then when she died I guess I just kept learning."

"Oh, I thought you inherited my natural skill for the dark arts," he said smugly.

"Ok, master of the dark arts," I said making quotation marks in the air, "what do we do now?"

"Now," he said walking over to Batman, "we trap her."

"How?" I asked.

"We use you as bait," Batman said bluntly.

"I told you we aren't doing that!" John yelled.

They started yelling at each other before I broke it up. "Do I get a say in this!?!" I yelled.

"No!" they said at the same time.

"You to do realize that I'm 14, right?" I said a little angry, " therefore, I am not a child!"

They both stared at me for a minute before Batman said something. "It's late we can work out the details of the plan tomorrow," he said.

"Fine," I said walking up the stairs to the room that I woke up in before. I got changed into my PJ's and it wasn't long before my eyelids got heavier and I drifted off to sleep.
