I Would

If I could take away the pain

And put a smile on your face,

Baby, I would, baby, I would

If I could make a better way,

So you could see a better day,

Baby, I would, baby, I would.

I would build a doorway to the sky and hand you the keys,

Let you know that you're always welcome so that you never leave,

Buy you all those fancy things that you only see on TV,

Alina's POV

I open my eyes and the world moves by in slow motion. My eyes travel to the person running towards me. My vision in blurry and my hearing shot. I can't make out the face or voice and at first I push away believing it's Grant, but when arms wrap around me and hug me tightly I know for sure it's not.

Through blurry eyes I see three figures on the floor, one surrounded by blood. Something in my mind causes my body to spasm and  I lay back onto the cold ground. I stare up at the ceiling and feel my breath quicken. I hear slamming and screaming before someone picks me up and carries me into the night. Sirens are the last thing I hear before I pass out.

I wake and look around. Josh sits in the chair in the corner watching me. He smiles and makes his way over to me. "You're awake." I can hear the happiness  in his voice.

"Yeah, so are you. What happened?" I make a move to get up and my entire body aches. Josh pushes me back and I finally notice I'm in the hospital. I scan the rest of the room and find Stephanie asleep at my bedside, Xavier on the floor beside her, and Angel and Kate standing quietly in the corner.

"Josh looks at me. I'm not quite sure." he laughs a little, "I was drugged for most of it, but I'm sure Stephanie can tell you when she wakes up." I turn my head and watch my sister sleep. "Do you want anything? Ice chips?"

I can't help but laugh, "Ice chips?"

His smile lights up the room as he looks at me and laughs, "What? They always do it in those hospital scenes on TV." I laugh again and nod my head. "Ice chips for the lady." He kisses my forehead and then leaves out the door.

I look over to Kate who is watching me with complete fear in her eyes. She walks over and sits on the bed. "Does this," she gestures around the room between everyone, "happen often? If so, I don't know how prepared I am to be a mother." We both laugh a little and I shake my head.

"It's not always like this. Promise." I offer a smile and thankfully she returns one as Angel comes up behind her.

"Good. Don't think your mother and I could take anymore scares like that." He smiles at me and looks down to her, his smile growing.

I look back over to Stephanie and Xavier, their breathing in sync. As I turn back to Kate, something catches my eye and I look down at her hands. There on her finger rest a beautiful diamond ring. Kate sees my staring and Angel pipes up, "If this happens again, she can't go through it alone."

Kate looks up at him, "And now I don't have to." They share a kiss and I can't help but watch and see how happy they are together.

"Get a room." Josh says jokingly as he enters the room with a cup in his hands. He hands me the cup and smiles down at me. "So you've heard the news I see."

"You knew?"

"Of course I knew. Helped my future father-in-law pick out the ring." The two men laugh and Stephanie wakes beside me.
