Part 6: The Finale
"Hello?"
Knock, knock, knock
Paul Blart/Security Guard's muffled voice came through the door."Mr. Kratt? Mr. Chris, Mr. Martin. Are you in there?"
They moved to the center of the room. Kneeling by each other and touching their palms together, they bowed their heads as if in prayer. In hushed, reverent tones Martin and Chris Kratt articulated the wish.
"I want to be with you always."
"I want to be brothers, lovers, partners."
"I want to sleep with you every night and wake up with you each morning."
The brothers' voices were so intimate that it was not sure who was whispering what words.
They heard their spouses' respective voices outside the door. The husbands tried very hard not to listen.
"Chris? It's your wife. Why is the door locked?"
"Martin, it's me, Laura. Please, open the door! I don't understand."
Chris said, his voice pained: "You know they'll be well taken care of. We made arrangements just in case anything happened to us. They won't be great. But they will be all right without us." He stroked Martin's face. "But Martin, I would not be okay without you."
Martin placed a kiss on Chris' forehead. "Ditto. Isn't something supposed to be happening? We don't have much time."
Chris pushed a heavy desk in front of the door, as quietly as he could. He grabbed a chair and wedged it under the doorhandle.
"Look at the star," pointed Martin.
"It's beautiful." And then, Chris knew what they had to do. As the wishing star grew brighter and closer, the silver rays reached in through the window.
Chris felt a tingling start at the top of his head and move down his body. It flowed through Martin too. "The magic is starting!" he said, a little louder than he had planned. "Shh! I can feel it too," whispered his older brother. A silver light began to glow around the pair.
Kssssssh .. the sound of a police walkie-talkie startled them.
Bang,Bang! No more polite knocks. the police didn't have time to waste with formalities. "Give me the key and step back." "Here, officer," said the security guard. The brothers heard the key rattling futilely in the lock.
The light around them grew and grew. 'I don't feel weak anymore," Martin exclaimed in disbelief. "The pain in my chest is gone!" The star seemed right outside the window. "Get up," said Chris. He helped Martin stand up. "Ooo, I was too fast. My vision isn't back all the way and I just got a dizzy rush." Martin collapsed on the floor again.
WEEP .. WOOOOooooooOOOOOoooo - It was a fire engine. They had come to break down the door.
The magic had to happen now. "We have to say it. If you can't get up, I'll sit here with you. Whatever happens, happens." They looked like two celestial beings, so dazzling was the light. It was in each strand of their hair, on their skin and clothes.
Tromp, tromp came the booted feet. "Stand back," ordered the fire captain.
DUN ! DUN! The battering ram struck the door. The desk moved slightly.
They locked eyes. "WHAT ... IF!"
At that moment the star shattered the glass and it exploded inward, sending a shower of tiny shards that sparkled like diamonds.
