Take Me Home

Rex took the glowing blade from my hand. He shoved a cloth from his back pocket into Zeeke's mouth and ordered me to hold Zeeke down.

I stared at him in disbelief! Me, hold Zeeke down?
The guy is clearly stronger than me, and while his shoulders weren't as broad or built up as Rex's, he wasn't a toothpick either.

"M-me?" I squeaked, pointing at myself.

"Yes, you!" He shouted at me.

I positioned myself behind Zeeke, sitting on my knees. I pushed his shoulders down and held him on my lap. He looked up at me, his mismatched eyes showing genuine fear.

"How's he looking, Nurse?" Rex joked, stress lines creased his otherwise flawless, tanned skin.

I raised my eyebrow out him.

"Just don't freak out," Rex advised, as he slowly pressed the tip of the hot blade into Zeeke's skin.

I won't pretend the sound the ripped through the air was pleasant.

With a quick flick of the blade a small, round bullet was flung onto the ground. There was nearly no blood, the glowing blade had sealed the wound to a great degree.
The second it was over Zeeke sprung away so fast he elbowed me in the face.

I rubbed my cheek while Zeeke held his battered, bruised and burnt leg. He gave Rex a fierce glare.

"You destroyed my car, you left me on the ground to argue with Micah, and then you stabbed me!" Zeeke shouted at Rex.

"We both know I had to cut the bullet out, Zeeke!" Rex yelled back.

I watched their bickering with some interest. Soon the accusations became insults and Rex was red with anger.

Before I knew it the two boys had gotten themselves into a serious argument.

"We could have died because you can't stand up to Micah!" Zeeke accuses.

"We wouldn't have run into Micah if you could keep your obsession with Nora under control!" Rex shot back.

Instead of defending himself or deflecting the comment, he made another stab at Rex. I was becoming more and more convinced that Zeeke was a stalker, I was in way over my head, and one way or another something terrible was going to happen to me.

More terrible than a few cuts and bruises on my feet.

"Nora didn't shoot anyone!" Zeeke shouts, pointing at me.

"Micah didn't have a choice!" Rex argues.

"Everyone has a choice!" Zeeke yells.

"Micah doesn't know that!" Rex shouts back.

"Micah doesn't know anything!" Zeeke throws his hands up in the air, frustrated.

"Micah doesn't know anything? Micah? What about Nora? She doesn't even remember who you are Zeeke! At least Micah knows who I am!" An immediate look of regret contorts Rex's face.

"Zeeke, I'm-" Before Rex could finish what I'm sure was an apology, Zeeke had hauled himself off the ground and punched Rex in the nose.

He began to limp away, an impressive feat after the ordeal he just went through.

"Zeeke!" Rex calls out through his hands, which are cupping his nose.

Blood seeps through and drops onto the ground.

"I've met Zeeke before?" I ask, confused.

"That's not my story to tell," Rex sits back down on the ground.
