Flashback ~Tom~
I went out the door of my house, down the steps and started walking. The night sky was cleared of clouds and the stars shinned in the sky.
"Thomas!"
I stopped with a groan, turning around to look at my mother who stood on the steps.
"Where are you heading off too? You don't have to work today!" She yelled.
"I'm just going to take a stroll around the neighborhood."
"But what if the animals come back and attack again?! You could get hurt!"
The attacks had stopped for a while, 2 weeks and no one has turned up dead. Yet. The people in town were relieved, but I knew it would be only a matter of time before they started happening again.
"I'll be fine. I'm not going into the woods, just walking." I say.
"But Thomas!"
I turned back around and started walking faster. My mothers voice starting to fade once I got farther. I took the short cut into the woods.
Since the day I meet Reyna, I couldn't stop thinking about her. She played on my mind nonstop. I wanted to see her again. No, I needed to see her again. Everyday I would go through that short cut, up and down the path looking for her.
But she never appeared. One thing I did notice was that every time I always had the feeling that I was being watched. And it was here again today, that feeling.
I stopped once I heard footsteps coming from up ahead. Someone was making their way towards me, and once they stepped out of the shadows and into the moon light. A small gasp came from me.
"Reyna."
She wore a blue and black dress, the corset tied from the front. Her chocolate brown hair fell in loses waves down her back, a black top hat casting a small shadows over her face. The hat she took from me.
"Hello again, Tom."
I couldn't help the smile that came to my face.
"Where have you been for these past 2 weeks?"
"Someone from my past had came into town, and I had no desire to run into them, or let them find me. So I went off to the next small town. It wasn't very far."
I nod my head.
"But they're gone now. So I returned. Miss me?"
I was about to open my mouth, when she suddenly appeared a few inches from me.
"You've been looking for me." She said.
"Yes, I have."
"Why?"
Her eyes pierce into mine. It was weird how her eyes held no emotion what so ever. It made it hard for me to know what she was thinking. I try to think of something.
"I wanted, um..."
I quickly glanced up at the hat that was placed on her head before looking back into her eyes. She started to back away, and I was afraid she was going to leave.
"My hat. Yes, I want my hat, I want it back."
She raised an eyebrow, before taking the hat off her head, and running her hand over the top of it.
"You do? But you see, Tom, this hat is mine now. It looks much better on me, don't you think?"
"I need it." I lied.
I had countless others at home. I just wanted to keep a conversation going between the two of us. Anything to keep her from leaving so quickly.
"Alright."
Reyna held out the hat towards me, but pulled it back once I went to grab it.
"Beg for it." She said.
I went down on my knees without a second thought. I looked up at her. Reyna smiled, a small giggle slipping from her lips.
"How easily you obey me. You must really want this hat."
She smooths her had down my hair, and the place the hat on my head.
"Well if that's all, I think I'll go."
Reyna turns to leave, but I grab her arm.
"Reyna, wait."
She looks down at me.
"I haven't been honest with you. I haven't been looking for you all for some stupid hat."
She took one look in my eyes and emotion flood through her blank stare. Her hand cups my cheek, and I shiver from how cold they are.
"Oh, Tom. I can see it all. The desire in your eyes as you look at me. It is not well hidden. Along with something else, something I don't understand."
Reyna pulled her hand away and I opened my eyes. She sighed.
"You are a good man, Tom. Not like many I have encountered before. Go back home. And forget about me. Before you get hurt." She says.
She starts to walk away. I stand up.
"No."
She stops, and looks at me from over her shoulder.
"I'll go now, if you do. But I will come back. Again, and again. Every day. I can't stop thinking about you. The girl who lives in the woods. You, Reyna, are a mystery that I want to unravel. And I will. Even if it kills me."
When she turned around her eyes were bright orange.
"A man who won't give up, and goes after what he wants. I knew there was a reason I liked you," her eyes went back to brown,"You want to be a detective, fine. But you don't even know what you're getting yourself into."
