"Please, stop! It's me Danny, your son! I swear it's me!" I plead with the two scientists who are performing the live dissection on me. I say live dissection rather than vivisection because of the fact that I'm half alive and half dead. On one hand it's a vivisection cause I'm alive, on the other it's a dissection because I'm also dead.

"Shut up ghost scum! You may be Danny, but you aren't our son. You never really were anyway." Da-no Jack, snarls at me with a crooked smirk on his normally bubbly face.

"What do you mean?"

"The day you believe to be your birthday was actually the day we found your pathetic ass on our front porch. Didn't you ever wonder why we treated Jasmine better? Why you would be given such dangerous chores in the lab? Why you weren't aloud to eat as much as anyone else? You were adopted and we only took you in in the first place so we didn't have to clean up the hazardous materials ourselves, and to have someone to test our experiments on. Don't think we didn't know you were Danny Phantom from the very start. We have security cameras down there and we saw everything. We acted otherwise so we could monitor your behavior." Maddie explains, but not because she cares, because she knows it will be what finally breaks my hope. And she is right.

"Get up ghost scum." A gruff voice sounds from the entrance.

I rise to my feet and follow the man I know to be wearing a pristine white suit. Three and a half years ago I went blind due to the testing of an acid meant to affect both ghosts and humans and unfortunately the only colors I can remember are black and white. They don't actually count as colors, but it doesn't mean I won't hold on to it. I count my steps just like always. Ten steps to the door. Turn right. Twenty steps to the corner. Turn left.

Left means that my 'parents' won't be doing a live dissection at all today. We are doing the tri-monthly testing of my powers. Believe it or not, I would rather have the live dissection. The powers testing is always dangerous. They pit me against ghosts that have gone insane due to how long they have been here. If I lose, I don't get to eat until the next power testing. I also won't get water more than once every two weeks.

I have been here for four years and nine months. I found out that I was adopted two days after I arrived in this miserable place, and my only way to tell time is through these tests. Even then I have to take the words of the GIW and scientists as to how long it is between each test.

Time, though before I came here I could tell you exactly what time it was without looking at a clock, is now blurred and hazy. I say the test is today when, for all I know, it could be eleven at night and the test will be done in fifteen hours, give or take as many as necessary, and it would be tomorrow when we finish. I do my best to think of time as a linear force, even though I know for a fact that it is anything but, I simply have to keep myself from believing that I am living in a time loop. The only evidence I have of it being otherwise is that of the difference in weapons they try on me, and opponents they force me to fight.

When I finish fighting opponents, they begin to test my endurance to their best weapons. After that, they study how long it takes me to heal the minor wounds. Then they take my vitals. When all of this is finished I do one of two things. First, if I don't have any assignments, they send me back to my room. The second is in the case, like today, when I do have an assignment.

When I have an assignment, they change the setting on my collar. I start by meeting my client. Today it is a woman code named the Owl. She gets her name because of her detailed and accurate information regarding the target. She has never been wrong before. Like many of my clients with high intelligence, she has a frigid exterior.

Today, the target is a man referred to as Ygor. He is called this due to the hunch in his back, though I didn't bother mentioning that the original mention of Ygor was not as the hunchbacked assistant of Dr. Frankenstein, but a blacksmith in the Frankenstein stories. I am sure Owl is aware of this as I can sense her cringe every time the name is mentioned. I find Ygor in, you guessed it, a science lab. In contrast to stories and movies, Ygor is the head scientist, not assistant.
