Peter and Jimmy decide to float on their backs in order to conserve their energy. They talk about how they're going to get out of the water. Peter's wife should know something is up when he doesn't call to update her in the morning the way he normally does on trips like these, and the sailboat should be sending its location to the coast guard. "So hopefully we just have to survive like this through the night . . . just until they start looking for us tomorrow," Peter says.
Jimmy nods. Neither of them wants to verbally acknowledge the possibility that they might not make it through the night.
It's starting to get dark.
They drift for a while, carried by the currents.
Then Peter sees it. A fin in the distance. He tries to keep himself calm. Maybe it's just a dolphin. He watches as the back of the creature glides smoothly across the water, and observes that it has only one dorsal fin.
Does Peter Tell Jimmy There's a Shark (7) or Ignore It (8)?
