Peter braces himself and uses his fingers to try and claw at the sharks eyes, causing it to turn at the last second instead of biting him. Peter breathes a brief sigh of relief before the shark charges again, angrily this time.
Peter's struggling. Since the shark's eyes are on the side of its head, it's really hard for Peter to reach them before the shark can bite him.
Somehow he does it, though.
Apparently Peter isn't worth it because the shark gives up after the second charge. It swims away, and Peter can't believe it's really gone.
The two men face each other again.
"That was insane," says Jimmy.
"You're telling me."
Another hour or so passes for the men, and finally Peter lets himself complain to Jimmy, "I'm so thirsty, Jim." And he is. He's absolutely miserable. His entire body feels like it's been drained of all it's energy and moisture. His throat is dry, his body resembles too well a prune, and his face is burning under the intense heat of the sun despite his hat's best efforts.
"We're surrounded by water," Jimmy notes.
