EVIE’S POV, TWO YEARS LATER
AGE 16
In the past two years Danny and I had become really close, even closer than Ben and Danny and they were pretty much brothers. They had also met and introduced me to three other guys, Sam, Cameron and James, who – 18 months ago – I had been told were in their band. At first my mum and dad couldn’t believe it, but I could. I know that they are going to be a really awesome rock and roll band one day; they had become five brothers’ not just friends and were really dedicated to the band. Recently I had been told by Danny that they were going to go to America, “Everyone talks about how hard breaking America is, so why not do it first? Why not stake dominance in the most likely to succeed place.” When he said it I giggled a bit, the thought of my five 16 – 18 year old 'brothers' from Hull going to the big old US of A to become famous rock and roll stars. But the more he’d talked about it to me over the past three months the more I had started to believe it, until today, when it was really coming true. I was standing in London Heathrow airport with my five brothers (which is how close we all are) with tears streaming down my face being held tightly into my best friend’s chest as the others were being smothered by their mums.
“I’m going to have to go soon, Beetle. The plane will be boarding.” He sniffled, the sound of tears evident in his voice,
“Really? I can’t believe you’re doing this. You’re going to be amazing, Danny. Before you know it you’ll have a record deal and you’ll be back at the O2 academy in Hull, but instead of freezing your arse off for hours with me you’ll be waiting to play backstage to a venue full of screaming fans.” I stepped out of his arms and held tightly onto his hands looking him in the eye to make sure he was listening,
“And when we get that famous, I’m going to come back to the Casa de Bruce and pick you up so you can watch us play and “critique” us like you’ve been doing for two years.” I went to open my mouth to speak, when he suddenly muttered under his breath,
“What? Dan, you know I hate it when you mutter.”
“I said; I’m really going to miss you, Eve”
“I told you, you would end up calling me that eventually… oh, and I’m going to really miss you too. I’ll call you though, okay? Or actually, you call me. I’ll just tweet you until you remember, any time. You know I don’t sleep.”
“I’ll remember, I promise.”
He gave me one last hug as he got pulled away to hug his mum and I went to see Ben,
“I’m assuming you decided not to tell him then” he whispered into my ear as I pulled him in for a hug.
“Yeah, I’ll get over it, and he’ll find a girlfriend more suitable for him in America. It’s for the better.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, trust me. And don’t say anything. Not even when we’re both in our 50’s.” I thrust out my pinkie to make him double swear just as the robotic sounding woman came over the airport intercom.
‘Flight 260 to Dallas, Texas is now boarding. Please head to gate 5.’
“That’s us! Ben! Come on! By Beetle, love you!” Sam shouted over as they all gathered their hand luggage,
“I love you all too! Go and be famous, Asking Alexandria!! And hey! CALL ME!”
“Yes! I love you, Beetle”
“Love you too Danny! Go on!”
They all shouted 'love you’s' and I walked back to the retreating group of parents once all five members of, soon to be famous, Asking Alexandria boarding the plane taking them to the rest of their lives.
The only bad part was that I was left here, In England. And even worse was that I already wanted a hug from Danny; the guy who was totally in the dark about how much I really loved him.
As I walked away thinking of Danny more tears slipped down my cheeks and before I knew it, I was in the car on the way back to the grey streets of Hull.
