"That should be all the paperwork, Mr. Wolfe. And I have your word that this will be kept....confidential?" Mrs. Owens spoke, handing me a pile of papers.

I gave her a side glance. I knew these types of people, all they cared about was money. Serafina staying here would just make her trust people even less.

When I had come to the orphanage, I wasn't really sure what I was expecting. After knocking on the door, a little girl answered. She couldn't have been more than six years old. She walked me into the waiting room in the front of the orphanage, not saying one word to me before scurrying off the second the owner of the building came into view. She was there talking to the sheriff of the town.

"Ma'am, some of the kids state she was kidnapped?" The Sheriff said while writing things down on a notepad.

"Nonsense, she's been known for running away. I told the state that having the children go to school would allow something like this to happen."

I figured they were talking about Serafina. I was about to ask and let them know that they had company when I remembered Serafina said no one knew her real name. I don't think I can get her to trust me if I let a secret, she's trying so hard to hide, out.

"Luna is with me, Sheriff Dodds."

"A call would have been nice, Alex."

It was a good thing that the Sheriff knew all about us and happened to be a friend. Mrs. Owen seemed to know just who I was and was speechless to have me standing in her home.

"One of your kids let me in." I told her. Her face turning into a grimace at calling the orphans her kids, before she schooled it into a mask.

"I really must talk to them about opening the door to strangers." I had a feeling I just got those kids into trouble.

"What were you planning on doing with the girl?" Sheriff Dodds asked me.

"She scratched my car." A painful expression came over Dodds face, 'I know dude, it hurt me too.' "The rest I would rather tell you in private. For her privacy of course."

"With all due respect, Alexander....."

"You may call me Mr. Wolfe." I interrupted her.

"Mr. Wolfe. She is a warden of the state and in my care. Matters like these, she has no privacy from."

Her tone had my anger spiking but masked my emotions.

"Speaking of her being a warden of the state. I have come here on behalf of a couple who would like to adopt her."

She looked quite stumped by that as she stared at me speechless again. Dodds took this moment to make his leave.

"I guess that's settled for now. Alex, you will make sure to call me when you are done here and explain the rest of what happened?"

"Yes, of course."

After the sheriff left, Mrs. Owen finally found her words.

"I'm not sure they would want to adopt this girl. She's a trouble maker, as you know from the damage she did to your car."

'Oh lady, you really have no clue.' I thought as I remembered my mangled Ferrari.

"That is besides the point. They are a slightly older couple and don't think they would be able to take care of a younger child. They have met Luna and are quite taken with her."
