Daylow grabed his coat and hat off of the rack on the back of the door.
He flung open the walnut door "I have a new limo waiting in the garage below the building." he said to Mila; waving her on.
"Now wait just one minute!" Mila interrupted
Daylow stopped
"First you send a limo to my door, the day after my sixteenth birthday! Then you almost have me killed! Finally, you tell me I'm the richest woman in the world!"
Daylow just stared at her.
"Don't you think I need some time to adsorb this all, before we go gallivant to 'who knows where' in the middle of the night!"
"You don't understand!" said Daylow in a sick like chuckle. "Your life is in grave danger. If I sent you to your penthouse alone, you would surly be murdered!"
"Penthouse!" Mila shrieked. "I want to go home! My parents said that it's alright."
"to visit - yes, but you could never live there!"
"Why not! Mila pouted.
Daylow put his foot down "You want to put you family's life in danger? Now come on, we have to go - it's for your own good!"
"Alright." Mila said in a low voice - turning her head, so that her side bangs covered her face.
They walked out to the reception area.
"Margret, this is Mila Furthington." Daylow said to the secretary - shoving Mila forward.
"We've met." Margret said with a smile.
"Mila and I our going to the Dargon Ryu dojo in the alley behind sixty-second street. If any comes looking for me, tell them to try there."
"Yes Mr. Carson, but isn't it kind of late for clients? Margret asked.
"Your right!" Daylow said "Just leave a note on the desk, and lock up. If it's anyone important; they'll have a key."
Daylow escorted Mila down the marble covered hall. Mila felt a cold draft blowing down the hall. They stopped a wall of elevators. Daylow pressed the 'down' button, next to the furthest elevator to the right. The door opened. Daylow nodded his head for Mila to go first. Just as the door was about close, Mila saw a shadow go by. The door closed shut and the elevator descending into the unknown. As the elevator dropped, the air grew cooler.
Finally, the elevator stopped. Mila followed Daylow down a narrow hall. I ended in a small garage. Mila saw the brand new limousine. Daylow walked over to the car. He opened the back-left door.
"Ladies first!" he said with a smile.
Mila stepped into the car. Daylow shut the door, as he sat down in the car next to Mila.
"Dargon Ryu!" Daylow shouted
The car began to move. Mila look up at the front seat. A new driver sat snugly in the driver's seat. Mila had no idea how he got in.
The garage door opened and the limousine drove out into the night air of the city.
"Ah..." Daylow exclaimed as he cocked he seat back. "...your uncle - he was something. You know he thought he was psychic."
"Really?" Mila said surprisingly.
"Yeah! He told me this story about how he discovered the island. He was working as a oyster-man on Lake Kamo in the island of Sado in the Sea of Japan. One night he had a dream. He saw two men digging in a dry riverbed. The riverbed was lined with gold nuggets as bigger then your fist. The next day he was in a town by the coast when he saw the two men loading up a fishing boat, and well... the rest is history!"
