„Please don’t go,” Harry said as Tessa reached for the doorknob. „There’s nothing left for me here Harry,” she replied before leaving him in his hotel room and heading for the elevator. Harry was frozen in his spot. What the hell just happened? „Stay,” Harry yelled after her as he rushed down the hallway to reach her before the elevator closed. As he got nearer he noticed the doors starting to close which made him sprint even faster. Without even thinking about it he put his hand in between the doors which caused the elevator to open once again. „Just let me go,” she said and Harry immediately noticed the tears that were forming in her eyes. She knew why this was so hard. She was still in love with him. But he had hurt him one time to many and she didn’t think she could handle a broken heart again and she didn’t trust him enough to give it back to him either. For the sake of her own wellbeing she had to leave him. And she felt worse than she thought was possible when she saw the hurt expression on him.

„I can’t let you leave,” he said as the elevator rode down towards the reception. „Why?” It was a simple question she had asked but he found it so hard to answer. „Because it’s too damn hard to be without you!” He said without even thinking and Tessa just shook her head lightly. „It will get easier in time.” Harry noticed how they were getting closer to her exit point which made him think fast. He then pressed all of the floor levels on the way down to the reception to make sure the elevator had to stop at every single floor - this was his only possibility to buy more time. Childish perhaps, but effective certainly. „What do you think you’ll get out of that?” Tessa asked and motioned towards the floor buttons. „Well more time to convince you to stay I hope,” he replied. „Well, you know what they say about hope Harry - it breeds eternal misery,” Tessa quoted as she impatiently waiting for the elevator to reach the lowest level.

„How did you get this cynical Tess?” Harry asked and stared blankly at her. Was this his making? „Experience taught me a thing or two. ButI guess it wasn’t fair of me to expect that much of you. You have my sincerest apologies for putting you up on that pedestal. I just thought you might actually care enough to make an effort,” she said. „How come you can’t see how much I actually care? I can’t function without you Tess. I can’t sleep or eat - and yes the concerts and the tour distracted me a bit but the moment I get some time on my own you are all that’s on my mind. Just please come back upstairs. Let’s talk about this. I really need you to stay here with me. I really need you here and I will do anything, anything that you want, to prove this to you love. Please!” Harry begged which made Tessa’s heart hurt even more. She was trying so hard to leave. But if leaving was the right thing to do then why would it be this hard.

„Just stay. It is horrible weather and you’ll probably not be able to catch a cab anyway, I mean seriously we’re in New York. Please just stay. Can’t you see that it’s meant to be you and I? We’re supposed to be together, because the world is just better when we are. Stay,” Harry said just as the elevator came to its last stop. „Harry, I’m not sure if that’s a good idea,” Tessa stuttered unsure of what to do. Her common sense was telling her to run out of there - get the hell away from the guy who left her when she needed him to stay. But her heart… Her heart was telling her otherwise, because wasn’t their love worth another chance? Wasn’t feelings that big what life was all about. She took a step forward not knowing what to do as Harry reached for her hand and grabbed it to stop her from leaving. She stopped in her track and lifted their interlaced fingers to observe them. Just like that by the touch of Harry Styles she felt safe and loved. His fingers tighten around hers and she felt the warm spread to the rest of her body and her heartbeat rise.

Just like that Tessa made her decision. Perhaps she wasn’t as trusting as she was used to be, but this felt so right - and he had mentioned that he was willing to work on the trust-part. She stepped back in the elevator and pressed the button to his floor. „I don’t fully trust you, you know that right?” She said and broke the silence. „I know,” Harry stated and found it impossible to keep the sound of his happiness out of his voice. Tessa looked up at him and noticed the big grin on his face. „What are you laughing about?” She asked faking being offended and swatted his arm. „Well what’s not to be happy about? I have you right here with me,” he sincerely replied. „I don’t remember you being so cheeky”. Tessa giggled at the grin that didn’t leave his face, not even when he lied down on the couch to sleep since she was in one of the beds, and the other belonged to Louis who probably would be home later.
