The doctor stayed with me until Cal and the nurse got back. When they did the doctor took the test tubes.
"I will be back after I run the tests" he said as he walked off. Cal walked in and sat next to me.
"Hey do you mind if I ask you something that may sound kind of weird?" He asked.
"No why?" I asked.
"I was just wondering if what you told the nurse was really your name." he asked.
"Of course it is why?" I asked.
"Well she looked up your name and it said that you have been dead for 4 and a half years" he said.
"What? How is that possible I'm sitting right here." I asked.
"I don't know." He replied.
"Did you at least find my parents?" I asked. Cal shook his head.
"After you "passed away" they left the country and haven't been back since" he said. I was a little disappointed but I knew I would find a way to find them eventually. A little while later the doctor came back in.
"You are a little dehydrated and you have a low blood sugar. But other than that I found nothing that should be new to you seeing as how Cal found you" the doctor said. Cal was confused.
"What does that mean" he asked. The doctor explained to Cal about how I black out when my adrenaline reaches a certain level. It cleared some stuff for him I think like why he found me blacked out in the rain.
"Should I take him home with me until you find someone in his family to take him in" Cal asked.
"That would probably be better than keeping him here" the doctor said with a laugh. We finished up talking and then I left with Cal. We went through a drive through and he picked us each up an ice cream cone and he also got me a water to rehydrate me. We ate in the car on our way to his house. When we got there Cal offered me his bed but I insisted he should have it and I would sleep in the living room. He grabbed me some blankets and a pillow.
"Are you sure you don't want the bed?" He asked. I nodded.
"I have slept on the floor for 5 years. It would feel too different" I said with a laugh. He smiled and said goodnight as he headed to his room. I put a pillow on the ground and then wrapped it in the blanket. When I laid down I just hugged it in the same way I hugged Alex. I started to cry and squeezed the pillow really hard. I felt alone again. When I fell asleep I had a dream but it wasn't a dream as much as it was a memory. All I could see was Alex on the floor behind that door that I couldn't get through. He is just laying there and there was nothing I could do. I woke up screaming. Cal ran out.
"What's wrong?" He asked. I was crying.
"I couldn't protect him. I promised I would protect him" I said as I squeezed the pillow. Cal walked over and knelt next to me. He wrapped his arms around me and tried to calm me down until I eventually fell back to sleep in his arms. This time not having any dreams.
