Butterflies exploded in me the second my head popped off the pillow that Monday morning. I stared up at the bottom of Janey's bed. We shared a room, and a bunk bed, so I stared at the bottom of her bed a lot. I could feel how wide my eyes were. I remember being unbearably excited the night before, but now that the moment actually came, I was regretting everything. I turned to my left side, wondering if I could pretend to be sick last minute.

"Come on, Sun, rise and shine!" My dad flung the covers away from me, and I groaned, curling into a ball.

    "I don't feel well!"

"You were fine yesterday. Now come downstairs, mom and I made your favorite!" My dad pat my shoulder, and I sighed, finally crawling out of my bed. I poked my head over Janey's bed to see if I had woken her, and when I saw that her eyes were still closed, I made sure my father was out of the room and changed into my dress. It was my favorite dress that I owned, given to me by, of course, Janey. It was white, and covered in sunflowers. It was a short dress, but not too short. And I loved how it fanned out to the sides of my body. Janey said it brightened the color of my hair. I had short, curled, red hair. I didn't care if it made me look like a boy.

I brushed through my hair in front of a mirror, and pulled on a pair of short white stockings with small ruffles on the top, grabbing a pair of my shiniest black flats to wear on my way. I opened the door when a small voice rang from behind me.

"Good luck, Sunny." I smiled, and turned towards Janey, who had a smile on her face as well.

"I love you, Janey." I left the room, closing the door behind me. I took in a deep breath, and sure enough: pancakes and bacon. Today can't be too bad. I walked downstairs and sat down across from my mother, who shares my red hair and freckles with me. A plate and a cup of orange juice had already been set out for me.

"Are you excited, sweetie?" My mom asked, smiling.

"I'm really nervous.." I laughed softly, taking a sip of my juice.

"You'll be fine, honey, they'll love you! You're Sunshine, after all."

"That's what I'm worried about! Surely nobody's gonna let go the fact that my name is Sunshine!" I groaned. My dad narrowed his eyes at me, sitting down next to me, joining in on the conversation.

"I thought you loved your name." I put my hands up in defense.

"I do, I do!" I assured them, "it's just....the other kids might think it's weird." My mom shook her head, smiling.

"So who cares what they think?" I smiled.

"I guess."

"Good. Now finish eating, we have to be there early for the tour." I nodded, and inhaled the rest of my food, rushing upstairs to brush my teeth. When your dad is a dentist, brushing your teeth is essential.I was already scared enough of all the tools in his office, and none of them have ever been used on me yet.

My mother informed me that I'd be taking the tour with another kid. His name was August. I thought it was a beautiful name. When we pulled up to the school, I saw the back of a short, brown haired boy and a tall woman wearing a black dress with white flowers. In front of them was a man with gray hair, a beard, and a gray suit. My mom wished me luck, and I hopped out of the car. The man turned towards me.

"You must be Sunshine. I might say, you two have the most unique names I've ever heard. I love them." He smiled, shaking my hand, and I returned the smile. "This is August Pullman." A single look at his face reminded me of Janey. My smiled widened even more, and got brighter, as I held my hand out to him.

"August. I love your name!" The boy seemed taken aback by my reaction, but he gently grasped my hand in his, shaking it, and smiling at me.

"I like yours too." He replied.

"I'm Mr.Tushman." The man from before introduced. August snorted, and I had to stare at my feet to hold back my smile, "You can laugh, I've heard them all: Tushy, buttman, buttface. Mr. Tuchus." The last name made August snicker, and I giggled a little myself.

Mr. Tushman let us in to the school and sat us down in the office with August's mother, who, may I say, was absolutely stunning. He let us know about the events that went on at the school, including the science fair, which was the most appealing to me. I've always wanted to participate in one from seeing them in shows. Mr. Tushman also brought up how the whole class took a trip to a nature reserve in Pennsylvania before graduation, which led me to blurt out.

"Wow! I love nature!" My face immediately flushed after my outburst, and Mr. Tushman laughed.

"Then you'll have a blast." He smiled. I heard a couple of high pitched voices near the door, prompting me to turn my head.

"Oh." Mr. Tushman said, "they're here."
