Kris's POV

It's been almost a week since I had revealed my secret to to Brian, and since Dammy revealed his. Brian did not contact me even once in the past  five days. He didn't even come to the shop.

I called and texted him a lot, more than I can count. But he never accepted my calls, read but never replied to my texts. I left him many voicemails. I would be lying if I said I did not miss him. His sense of humour, his smiles, his rough yet sweet voice, his twinkling blue eyes, his jet black hair. Everything. He had managed to attach himself to my mind in just two weeks.

The ringing of my phone pulled me out of my thoughts. An unknown number?

"Hello?"

"Kristine Darks!" a female voice replied.

"Who's this?"

"Krissy! Help me! Save me! These women have kidnapped me!"

"Carter? Where are you? Who kidnapped you? Tell me something!"

"Kris, I don't have much time to tell you anything but  verba puellarum scire secretum nostrum, et interficiemus te, et locutus est mihi, ut una sabbati Maria fecerant in coenobio. Et tollebant quod non occidas me et te. { Latin : these girls know our secret and threatened me to kill you and Marie in one week. They have kidnapped me because I couldn't kill you. }"

"Ubi es? { Latin : Where are you? }"

"Nescio. { Latin : I don't know. }"

"Non forsit. Faciam try invenire te. { Latin : No problem. I'll try to find you. }"

"What?" the kidnapper's voice returned.

"N-nothing."

"By the way, I'm sending you a video. Hope you enjoy it too. Toodles!" she giggled, sending a shiver down my spine, and cut the call.

I checked my messages to see a video from the same number. I clicked on it and gasped at the first scene itself.

"Ow! Ouch! Grrr! No! *sobs*"

"Pretending to be all tough huh? There you go," a burly girl said kicking Carter. Another was whipping her. Her tattered clothes were in a corner. Blood was oozing from the numerous cuts and lashes on her back. I felt a tear roll down my cheek. I suddenly felt a pang of rage when I heard Carter apologise to me and Marie. Not for her, but for the kidnappers. All I saw was red.

I closed the messaging app and called up Brian, which, as usual, went straight to voicemail.

"I don't care if you're busy or not. You need to come to my house. RIGHT. NOW."

My voice was wavering in the end and hot tears raced down my cheek.

Brian's POV-

"Detective Sergeant Brian Stein."

"Yes sir."

"Have you solved the case of Miss Darks?"

I hesitated "Not yet sir."

"Do you plan on passing this case to your grandchildren?"

"Not at all sir."

"Then go back to wherever you need to go to and FIND THE MURDERER!"

"Yes sir." I bowed and left his office. I wish I could change my beast-like boss to someone more gentle. I sighed.

"What happened Mr. Good Cop?" Cassandra, my colleague, smirked.

"Don't ask me Cas. Just old Gartor been an annoying alligator."

She laughed. Well, she doesn't have to bear with him because of her own gentler senior.

"Don't worry. It will get better one day."

"Yeah sure." I scowled.

"Brighten up Mr. Grumpy Pants and get back to work," in a lower voice, " or there will be an alligator behind you. Hahaha!"

"Good bye Cassandra." I said through gritted teeth.

"Bye Brian." she waved.

Now to deal with the Darks case.

I checked my phone to see a new voicemail from Kris. I felt guilty as I put the voicemail on.

"I don't care if you're busy or not. You need to come to my house. RIGHT. NOW."

Her voice was shaking and she sounded as though she had been crying. I grabbed my coat and left the department for her place.
