Meet Me In the Middle
note: this picks up right at the end of season six! if you haven't watched it most of this won't make sense
Lance felt strange going home, yet he was more than happy for it. Not much good had come from coming to space. His heart got broken, he grew distant from his best friend, and being wrapped up in a war, of course. He learned quickly that even though you can go anywhere and do anything, you feel trapped.
Since the Castle of Lions had been reduced to a rock, the paladins landed on planet Mettatopia for a rest before setting off. As the people were members of the coalition, the paladins were given great accommodation for the night; but it felt wrong. Lance never wanted to come back. Space had started off as the best time of his life, and ended as the worst. Unless something amazing happened right now, he would be happy to see everyone go.
The next problem was Allura. Well, she wasn't the problem, it was Lance's crippling crush on her that led to him falling in love. He thought that she would start to like him more now that he's more mature, but I guess it's the opposite. Maybe he really wasn't good enough for anyone, no matter how he acted. Lance was sat on the roof of their accomodation. One, solemn tear ran down his face as he kept thinking.
Meanwhile, Allura was sat on the roof of her room, anxious for the day ahead. Everything had happened so fast; too fast. One minute she's in love with Lotor, the next he betrays her and her kind, and later she's fighting him to the death. It seemed... unfair. Everyone that she loved in her life seemed to get ripped away from her when they got too close.
Allura tried to think back to her first girlfriend, Jasmine, but the thought of Altea made her feel as if her heart was being shattered into a million pieces. Allura had never really healed, she had just distracted herself until she almost forgot to grieve. Now they were on a break, she could finally mourn her planet and her people. Her father, her mother, her friends, everyone. Allura brushed these thoughts away. She had to stay distracted, there was much to do tomorrow.
Jasmine was not a lover, per say. Allura was seventeen at the time, young and reckless with no care in the world. She never loved her, only liked, but it was still a time in her life she will never forget. Allura could remember her and Jasmine driving and laughing all the way to the beach. She smiled at the memory.
Lotor was the first person she truly loved. The first person Allura felt she could spend the rest of her life with, except he was arguably the most cruel specimen in the entire universe. Though, Lotor did love her back. He had acted like he wanted peace, but the way he pleaded her was far from fake. The thought made her heart sting. She never wanted to see him ever again, and yet, she couldn't get him out of her mind.
She heard a sniffle from somewhere, breaking her train of thought. Slowly, Allura stood up. Was someone up here too? Her head scanned around her slowky, and then, she spotted him. The boy from Cuba, wherever that was, that she felt the most pity for. He was sitting on the edge of the roof, his legs dangling off the edge, on the same side of the house that she was on. The only thing that seperated them was a small gap between the accomodations. I guess they were both too busy in their own thoughts to notice one another.
Lance was looking out at the stars, his knees pulled close to his chest, wiping tears away from his face with his sleeve. Allura hesitated before talking to him. Although he was crying, Lance looked so peaceful. Like he was friends with the stars he was looking at.
"Lance?"
Quickly, he turned around. Upon seeing who called his name, he sighed.
"Sorry, Allura." Lance stood up and shoved his hands in his pockets as he spoke, "Didn't know you were up here too."The princess didn't know what to say before he almost walked away. She wanted him to stay; she needed someone to talk to, and he did too.
"No, stay."
Lance turned to her, one eyebrow raised in confusion.
"If you want to, of course."
Lance brought his sleeve to his cheeks and wiped again,
"Sure."Lance came and sat by Allura, watching the stars, not saying a word to eachother. Lance felt empty. He was emotionally drained, Allura was the last person he wanted to see right now.
Allura, on the other hand, was happy Lance was with her. She needed company at a time like this. Someone to distract her when her own thoughts went too far. Someone to distract her.
"So," Allura spoke softly, "What are you thinking about?"
Lance looked down at his feet, still not talking. He wanted to open up. He wanted to talk to someone about all the things he'd been feeling. Now that he had a chance, he wasn't sure if he should take it."Home. Space. War. So, the usual."
Lance felt her shift uncomfortably beside him. He couldn't be bothered to give a proper answer to her question. Why did she even care? She'll leave once she realises she's the problem anyway.
"What about you?" He asked, still stargazing."The same, really." Allura replied, and sighed, "Lotor aswell."
Lance chuckled sarcastically.
Allura looked at him strangely,
"What?"
"It's just, we're sad about the same things for completely different reasons."—
