THIS IS NOT EDITED!!!! I also rushed parts of it, so forgive me if the quality isn't as great :S
I may have to add in parts (but not likely at this point. If I do, and it's something major, I will notify you in the next chapter)
Chapter 17
The next day I had managed to convince Damon to let me use his library. I had to emphasize my nerdiness and therein spiel about my need to keep up with my sharp, well-studied self, but I got the job done in the end. We had just finished breakfast and were on our way up when I suddenly thought about something.
"Why do you live in Alaska when your headquarters is probably nowhere near here?"
He gave me an intrigued look. "Are you trying to get something out of me?"
"No," I laughed, "I was just wondering. It seems pretty odd if you ask me. Why would you live out in the middle of nowhere, not even close to your business?"
"Tell me first, how much do you know about me on a professional level. And how do you know we're in Alaska?"
"Pft, really? Don't you think finding out where I was would have been the first thing I wanted to do? As for how I found out, I don't really want to tell you."
He glared at me for a second before replying, "Fair enough, I suppose. And my first question?"
"Oh. Well I know you're the CEO of Vanguard Technologies. (a/n this name might be subject to change) You're basically one of the most influential, revered, and wealthiest men in the world—"
"You mistakenly left out sexy."
"No, I think I left out conceited," I said, rolling my eyes, "Other than that all I know is that your company deals with all sorts of software and technology, kind of like Microsoft or Apple, but you also deal with smaller things like hardware and whatnot. Yeah that's pretty much all I've ever heard, read, or deduced in my lifetime from seeing the logo of your dumb company on like half my appliances."
"Don't be jealous—"
"I'm not. I'm just annoyed that dicks like you become successful. Oh and not to mention, kidnap innocent college girls for fun. Is that how you stay on top? By kidnapping college students' and their fresh, innovative ideas so that you're company will always be on top."
His eyebrows rose up as he gave me an odd. "I hope you don't really expect me to answer that, nor do I hope you were being serious."
I opened my mouth as if about to speak and then shook my head.
"Good," he muttered before continuing, "I'm glad you know at least a little bit about my company, but back to your question, when do you ever see the CEO really doing anything other than reading files, going to meetings, holding some kinds of orientation, or giving a speech."
I thought about it for a moment. I didn't know a lot, but I knew that for the most part they didn't have to do much. "Uh, rarely ever I suppose."
"Exactly! CEOs never have to do any field work and most responsibilities can be fulfilled over the computer."
"So you prefer to live in a house in the middle of nowhere as opposed to, I don't know, California, France, New York, Italy, god knows where else, just because you want to?"
