Reina walked into her homeroom and sat down in her desk in the back corner of the room. Around her were her peers, the people she has come to know. Know, and mostly hate. She looked at the doorway as Aaron Smith walked in. She seemed to chuckle at the idea of actually being considered a peer to someone like that. He was a jerk, Plain and simple. Next was Isaiah and his girlfriend, and her best friend, Clover. They’ve dated for almost a year and a half, having found out that their scars matched. Oh how she wished she found her match. Oh, well. She waved, and they walked over.
“Hey. girlie.” Clover chirped. Isaiah nodded, smiling.
“Hey. What’s up?” Reina laughed at Clover’s over-cheeriness.
Clover giggled as Isaiah’s arm was tightly knit around her, “Nothing, just a normal day.”
“Yeah,” Reina nodded.
“So, uh, where’s that boyfriend of yours?” Clover asked half disgusted.
“Grady? He’s skipping class.” Clover shakes her head, and Isaiah speaks.
“Reina. He’s no good for you. He is a freaking alcoholic, motorcycle-riding, smoking slutwhore.” Reina blinked a few times, taken aback by his upfrontness.
“Don’t talk about him like that. I know what I’m getting into. Not everyone knows their soulmate by 17.”
Clover looked a taken aback, “We’re just trying to help you out. Hun, he’s a dickhead.” Isaiah nodded in agreement.
“Well, thanks for the support.” She quips, sarcastically. Reina turns toward the front of the room, and pulls out the worn-out copy of her favorite book. She starts to read, which is a sign to anyone that knows her not to talk to her anymore.
A redhead walked in, and sat directly next to her in the only open seat in the room. “The Fault in Our Stars”, he grinned, “Nice book choice there.”
Reina looked up and shot him a small glare, “I know, that’s why I’m reading it.” He throws his hands up in surrender.
“Wow.” He smiles.
A really nice smile, Reina thinks.
“I was complimenting you, put away the bear trap, eh?” Reina looks up again, and smiles slightly, her shoulders untensing.
“Hey, I’m sorry. I’m just not in the best mood. I’m Reina, by the way. Are you new?”
“It’s fine. everyone gets like that sometimes.” He smiles again. God. “and yeah, I am. My name is Caiden. I moved from sunny florida all the way to cold, snowy Saugatuck, Michigan. Yay for job transfers!” He says, sarcastically, throwing up two thumbs.
“Hey, be happy. It only snows in winter...and some of spring...and fall...but not summer!” She laughs, also sarcastically, “And we have Starkid here, which basically makes it the best.”
