Amara's POV
It's summer finally here in California and that means I don't have any teachers standing in my way! I can sleep till I want and stay up as late as I want!
"Honey! Cam's here!" My mother yells from the kitchen.
"Coming!" I respond back.
It's just my mom and I. I'm the only child and my dad left after my health took a down hill.
I was never the healthiest baby. I was born 3 months premature. As I grew older I always had a problem gaining weight. I'm as thin as a twig. On my 16th birthday, I was rushed to the hospital. I haven't told anyone besides my family that I have Leukemia. I was planning on telling Cam because he is my best friend but it's a very sensitive subject. I plan on telling him today.
"Hey Cam! I haven't seen you since yesterday!" I joked.
"Hey Amara! Long time no see!" He took off his shoes and made his way up to my room.
"I'll be there in a minute Cam!" I yelled up the stairs and turning to my mother.
"Mom, I'm going to tell him today. Seeing that I have to go have my blood work done tomorrow. So if you hear anything, you know that I told him." I said calmly.
As I made my way up the stairs. I was nervous as ever. I never really noticed how many stairs we had in this house.
I turned the corner into my room and of course Cam made himself comfy all wrapped up in my blankets. I sat on the edge of the bed.
"Cam I have to tell you something. I've been waiting 3 years to tell you because I was unsure how you would react."
"Amara you know I will help you through anything. You can tell me anything. You are my best friend. I trust you." He put his hand on my shoulder.
"Cameron, I have Leukemia. I'm a ticking time bomb. I have to go into the hospital for blood work. If my blood work comes back okay, I'm put on the list for a stem cell transplant."
His face was blank. I could tell he was trying to comprehend all of this information. A single tear rushed down his cheek.
"We will get through this together. I don't care what your mom thinks I'm staying here tonight and going with you tomorrow, you are not doing this alone." He stated.
Cameron will get what he wants. I wrapped my skinny little arms around him and hugged him as tight as I could.
I knew having Cameron here would make me a whole lot stronger. Little does he know is that I want him to stay at my house until I take my last breath.
We walked down stairs and I gave my mom a nod and she got the hint that I told him.
"So Cam, how are you?" My mother asked.
"A little shocked. It's a lot to take in but we can get through this together. all three of us. I told her that I'm going with her tomorrow morning. There is no way she is going with out me." Cam recites.
"Hey mom is it okay of Cam stays tonight seeing that we have to leave early in the morning?" I plead.
"I guess. Only because I know Cams a good guy and won't do anything!" my mom smirks.
"Thank you!" Cam and I yell at the same time and run up and hug her.
"Well I'm whipped. I think I'm going to bed!" I announce to the whole neighbor hood. "Mind joining me Cam?"
Cam follows me up the stairs to my room and shuts the door. I throw my long brown hair into a ponytail and climb into bed. Cameron goes to lay blankets onto the floor but as soon as he lays them out I roll them back up and he looks at me with confusion.
"There is no way you are sleeping on the cold hardwood flooring. I understand we aren't 7 anymore but I want my little Cammy Wammy to sleep next to me." I say jumping in bed once more and pay the spot next to me.
He huffs but I know he likes it. He pulls off his shirt and pants leaving him in his boxers like he sleeps every night and crawls in next to me. I lay my head on his chest.
"I love you cameron." He looks at me in disbelief.
"I love you to Amara!" With that I listen to the sound of his heart and slowly fall into a deep sleep.
