- Ray Del's Perspective -
"Oh sh*t, what happened to her?" I hear Hans say as I lay Fleta onto the ground.
"She was impaled by the guy from 10!" Shakeya yells, hurrying to a sponsor pack. Inside it was a med kit, capable of saving her life.
The sponsors don't hate us after all.
"Ima go look for cloth, supplies, anything." I say, hurrying away from the scene. It's so horrific seeing a friend motionless and on the ground. I remember that I saw a small shack on the way back to the camp. Maybe it has something we could use.
I see it in the distance, sunlight just barely entering through the cracks in the wood. I run to it, leaves and branches crunching under my feet. Inside, it's a small shed. There's a broken, rusted lawn mower in the center of the room. Shelves surround the machine.
I check every shelf, but most have either dust, cobwebs, or empty gas cans. But there's one that stands out, and that I feel was placed there on purpose.
It's a small, black leather bag with an ornate zipper. I slowly open it, and thank my luck. Inside is a set of poisons, syringes, and a couple gloves. It's perfect, as one of my specialties in training was with poisons.
"Beautiful." I say to myself, gathering everything and taking the bag. I walk outside, and hear something crashing down to the north.
It's a tree, burning down by flame. All behind it is the same thing, one giant fire. I realize what this is almost immediately, being from 7. But it wouldn't take a genius to figure this out.
It's a forest fire.
I duck suddenly as a fire ball whirls past my head and crashes into the wooden shack. It blows up the walls, and the mower flies through the roof. It lands with a painfully loud clink, and I bolt for my squad.
My fear in this moment was indescribable. I had to fight hard to escape the looming memories of my parents' death. Fire did it. A minute later, I see Dennis looking for me.
"Ray!" He yells. "Come quick!"
"Pack everything up!" I yell back. I see the other three looking into the sky, probably at the massive ash cloud building up.
"Holy f*ck!" Dennis yells, finally seeing what happened. Fleta is awake at this point, as she was likely only in a light sleep. She tries to get up, but falls over again in pain.
We all huddle, figuring out our next move.

Now, the squad of five has a few options. You have to escape the forest and make it to the mountains, and you only have a small amount of time if you don't want to be engulfed in flames. Fleta is badly injured, and taking her with you will slow you down massively.A. Attempt to escape by carrying Fleta on either Hans' or Dennis' backs.
B. Leave Fleta to die and guarantee no damage to the other 4.
C. Custom Plan.- Dean's Perspective -
I see an ash cloud rising, and realize this has to be a fire of some sort to push us out of the forest.
"Sam, you see that sh!t?" I ask nervously.
"Yup." She says. "As much as I'd love to stay here, we gotta go. Now."
"Sure thing." I say. "To the mountains we go!"
- Riko Diaz's Perspective -
You did what you had to do, Riko.
You did what you had to do to survive.
I kept repeating that phrase over and over in my head, like a broken record. Because I abandoned them. My district partner, and the one seemingly innocent girl from 12. Left them to die.
And they didn't.
They didn't die. That meant I had another alliance against me, besides whatever ones there were out there already. But I did what I had to do, and that's what matters.
¿Verdad?
I remember a phrase from an old Hunger Games we watched on tape in my class. It had this one girl, who said a quote. "Juntos somos fuertes." It translated to "Together, We're strong."
I guess I had forgot that. No, they had. If they hadn't opted to climb, they would've come with me. Yes. It's their fault.
