The fire bursts from each corner of the stage, illuminating the members' faces in ominous shadows. The hot stage lights beam down on BTS as they dance and sing to one of their better known songs. Fire blasts from the large speakers all over the stadium, the music only amplified as ARMY sings along. Everything is going smoothly, and everyone is happy. The members all have sweat dripping from their necks as they dance fervently. This is their happy place, this is where they are meant to be. The stage, their performances, it is what they were born to do. But no one is ever allowed such happiness in this world.
They hear the screams before the gunshots.
There is more confusion than fear swirling through the stadium as the lights go out and the popping of a gun continues. More screaming follows as BTS is rushed off stage. The crowds are frantic, the security guards are forceful, and the members are manic. In the dark and the chaos, there is no way to know if everyone is alright, but the adrenaline keeps them going. The members fear for the lives of their fans and for the lives of each other. They try not to think of who fired the gun, but focus on the hands and arms of security guards at their backs and on their shoulders. They shake with fear, running as fast as their legs will carry them. It feels like a race. They are racing the danger, and in doing so, Bangtan seems to be racing death itself.
By the time they get to the back room there's light again and security holds them there. All the members are unable to speak, fear seizing their vocal cords. They all look at each other, nothing to say and nothing to do but wait.
The silence grows heavy in the air as Suga dips his head to stare at the floor. It seems easier to look away than to force eye contact.
J-Hope and Jungkook come in last and, unlike the rest of the group, they are frantic with questions. The room slowly begins to escalate in volume as each silent member joins in the inquiry. They angrily fire their curiosities and concerns at the security guards, taking out their panic and fear on the men sworn to protect them. It doesn't seem right, since the guards know little more than BTS does, but they are so afraid it hardly matters who becomes their target of rage.
Jungkook stops for a moment and looks around at his friends. Jimin and Jin have started arguing over what organization the shooter was from while Taehyung and J-Hope are worried about the fans and the crowd. Suga is quietly standing amidst them all, a thoughtful expression on his face. There is no way of knowing what he is thinking, but it can't be about anything other the shooting. Jungkook's eyes grow wide. Someone is missing from this room.
"Where's Namjoon?" Jungkook croaks out, his throat tight with tension. There is too much noise for him to be heard. "Where's Namjoon?!" He repeats, this time at a yell.
All conversations cease in that single moment as every member scans the room. Dread creeps onto everyone's faces. They all see the same thing that Jungkook does; Namjoon is missing.
The first to acknowledge their utter terror out loud is Jin. He begins to cry, small sniffles at first and then a full blown sob. He can only think of their leader, their friend, lying dead on the stage, shot by the bullets they were all protected from. J-Hope is next, attempting to come up with optimistic outcomes. He asks if maybe they took Namjoon somewhere else since he's the leader, but J-Hope earns no reply from his peers or the security around them. Then comes Suga, his face turned violent as he approaches the nearest security guard. His heart beat is surprisingly normal, and his voice is calm when demanding information from the guard. The man tells Suga that they are trying to get details but don't really know anything.
"This is Namjoon, RM, the leader of this damn group. He's probably one of the best known—" But Suga isn't allowed to finish his thought, because another security officer is yelling down the hall at a retreating figure. Jimin is dashing away from the crowded scene into the dark hallway leading to the stage.
