Otome's Distractions

Otome waited outside on the steps of her front door, history book in hand. She was waiting for Henry Bokerdole and Shelly Bokerdole (neighbors of hers who lived a bit deeper in The Woods by Aikatsu Street) to return from the hospital. Shelly had gotten sick and had to go stay in the hospital for a few days, but now she was better and returning to her mansion home in the woods. Aikatsu Street worried, but her presence would reassure them all. But sadly, to Otome's dismay, she still had school. So she read her history book while waiting, if you could call it reading. Otome could feel her eyes move from sentence to sentence, but her mind was somewhere else in the clouds in a deep daydream.

Then a car began to pull up, Otome looked up, was it Henry's truck? No, it was the Yuki family's van. Once parked in it's rightful driveway, out emerged Subaru Yuki, Yume Nijino, Kanata Yuki, and Laura Sakuraba, all of them smiling and laughing.

"Hi Otome!" Yume waved once the girl was noticed

"Hello!" Otome called back "Did you see Henry's truck on the way over?"

Laura shook her head, then her gaze turned to Subaru. "What?" Subaru asked after a moment

"You have to shave it off," Laura said with a laugh

Subaru had attempted to grow a mustache over the summer, however, to many's opinion, he should get rid of it. "Oh what do you know?" Subaru asked with a laugh

Otome returned to her history book, finding the conversation the four older kids having quite to her liking. But then again, neither was her history book.

Then a girl came riding over on her bike. It was Akari. Akari and Yume had met at Summer Cap a few years ago, Otome was sure Akari would ride over to the newly arrived group, but instead she pulled over to Otome. "Hi," she said

"Hello," Otome replied with a smile

"Um ... Mikuru is your sister, right?" Akari asked

"Of course! You know that, silly!" Otome said with a smile "Did you want to talk to her?"

"Um, no," Akari shook her head "She and Sena are still dating, right?" Otome nodded "Well, then do you hang around Sena then?"

Otome shrugged "He sometimes come over, but we don't hang out a lot," Otome thought about it. He was dating her triplet sister, they should get to know each other. "Maybe I should set up a group date," she wondered a loud "That would be fun,"

"What do you think would make him angry or jealous?" Akari asked, stepping off her bike

"Jealous? Oh, I don't know about that," said Otome "But I know what would make him angry! Pour something hot onto him! That always makes someone angry, but it's a fun prank,"

"You know the Yuki brothers, right?" Akari asked

"Of course I do silly, we've been neighbors forever," Otome smiled "I think you're getting a little forgetful,"

"Is Kanata still dating Tsubasa?" she asked

"Um ... no, they never were dating,"

A silly rumor had started that Tsubasa Sakuraba and Kanata were dating. No one knew who started it or why, but it took days - almost weeks to get everything straiten out.

"Okay. And Subaru isn't dating anyone?"

"No."

Akari thought for a moment before asking "Could you set me up on a date with one of them?"

"What?!" Otome exclaimed

"Not so loud!" Akari hissed

"Sorry," Otome said, covering her hand over her mouth "But why?"

"Huh?"

"Why?"

"Just ... just please, can I count on you?" Akari asked

"Um," Otome tried to her her thoughts in order and think about it. She didn't want to set Akari up on a date with Kanata or Subaru. Kanata already liked Ako and had only confessed to be in-like with her, Ako said the same thing about Kanata ... in her own Ako way. And Subaru, what nearly everyone knew, liked Yume. Only a handful of people actually knew, but Otome was one of them and supported the idea. To set either of them up on a date with Akari was just unthinkable, but Akari was still her friend nonetheless. "I can try," Otome said, nearly lying.

"Thanks," Akari began hauling her bike away, probably to the Nijino house

Set her up on a date. Why in the world would Akari ask Otome to do such a thing? To make Sena jealous? But that never worked. At least, she didn't think so.

Then suddenly, out of the corner of Otome's eye, she couldn't help but notice, a small floral dress slowly being blown away by the autumn wind. Otome put her book down to run over and grab it. It was an adorable little short-sleeved dress with roses, daisies, and leaves on it. "Love You," said Otome, since the dress was so beautiful. If it were in her size, Otome would want to wear it every day. But where had it come from? No one on Aikatsu Street was this  small. Then Otome remembered the new neighbors, could the dress have come from them? Otome turned to the new neighbors house, a clothing line was hanging in the backyard. Then this dress must have come from there!

Otome took no time to wait, she walked over to 122 Aikatsu Street and rang the bell. She waited. Then a woman with brown hair and indigo eyes answered the door. She was also holding a baby with curcles of caramel brown hair. "Love You," said Otome

"Love! Love!" the toddler chimed back

"Um, hello," said the woman

"Hi!" Otome said, smiling "I love your baby,"

"Thank you, she turned two a month ago," the woman said proudly

Otome's smile widened. So far these new neighbors were very Love You. "Oh, um, I think this flew away," Otome held up the dress, the woman's eyes widened. "Is it yours?"

"Yes it is. Thank you," The woman looked behind her "Could you put it on the table please? I'm just a little occupied,"

"Aye! Right away," said Otome "I'm Otome Arisugawa, from next door!"

"Nice to meet you, I'm Kaoru Komoto and this is Saya,"

"Nice to meet you too!" Otome smiled and walked inside. There was the rabbit cage holding two of the cutest bunnies Otome had ever seen. "Love You," she said

"You like rabbits?" Kaoru asked

"I love them!" Otome answered "What are their names?"

"The one with brown is Zayn," Kaoru answered "The black one is Taylor,"

"Nice to meet you Zayn and Taylor," Otome said to the rabbits. Then she remember the dress and quickly put it on the table. Otome looked at the walls to see if they were still painted the way the Hanazonos' painted them. They were! The Love You paintings with it's dreamy air were still there. Otome smiled happily then turned to Kaoru "My friend's mom painted those," Otome told her, pointing to the paintings

"She did? Well there amazing," Kaoru said with a smile as Saya began pulling at a flower that was sewn onto her jacket. "Did she used to live here?"

Otome nodded "They live on a farm now,"

"My, that sounds like fun,"

Otome nodded again, she had been to the farm (or farm-like place). It was incredible! There was a well, a small pond, lots of flowers, and lots of sheep too! (yet another animal the Arisugawas could never own)

Then, Otome thought she heard a car driving over. Her eyes widened. "Henry! Shelly!" she cried, just loud enough to startle Saya and make her cry. "Oh! I'm sorry,"

"It's fine," Kaoru assured her "I'll calm her down,"

Otome was torn. She didn't want to go while Saya was still crying, but she didn't want to miss seeing Shelly or Henry either. "You can go," said Kaoru said, reading Otome's mind

"Eh?"

"Go see your friends. I'll be fine,"

Otome smiled sympathetically "Thank you!" Otome walked out, closed the door, then ran over to the elderly couple climbing out of their car to say hello. "Shelly!"
