The second we left the village gates, I knew Sam had made a wrong choice. As soon we started walking through the woods, they seemed to enclose me. I hated the feeling of our whole village walking through wolf territory. I, like the other Protectors, was constantly on the edge; every ready to draw my vipers out. I was surprised at how quiet the forest was, and after a while, I calmed down. It was a beautiful day out. The sun was shining through the tree tops, transforming everything into a pale shade if green. Children ran around, swinging makeshift weapons they had found. Everything went smoothly until night fell. We set up camp in a large clearing, and assigned guard duty to people. I we sat around a huge bonfire talking, and the next thing I knew, I was asleep. It was the screaming that woke me up. I jumped out from under my blanket and landed with vipers drawn. When I had reached the screaming sound, everyone had awoken. There was a woman sitting in the dirt with blood on her hands. Her slender frame was shillouted by the still burning fire.

"They took my baby." was what she kept screaming over and over.

I wished Boxer was there, but I pushed the wish out of my head. Dakota rushed through the crowd to me, with one man following behind him.

"We have to go kill them Tyre. The woman said there were only two of them, so three men should be plenty."

"Way ahead of you. The blood trail leads to the West. Stay close and stay prepared." I remembered that last sentence from when I was training. It was what we Protectors lived by. The three of us took off after the little childs blood trail. I could tell by the amount of blood that saving the kid was a lost cause. We went to kill the beasts. Soon enough we had found a den that the blood led up to. With one deep breath, we ran in. The sight was gruesome; there was blood and body parts everywhere. The two wolves stopped eating and stared up at us with blood dripping from their white fangs. I took a cautious step forward which caused both of the wolves to emit growls.

"There is no way we can't kill them." I said to Dakota.

"I swear, you're a genius." He replied sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes and took another step forward. Both of the tense wolves sprung towards us. In only a moment more blood was added to the scene. The Alpha male morphed and thcontinued bleeding, but the other wolf changed into human form and took a sharp breath. I stared in disbelief when I noticed that it was a she-wolf.

"I'll finish her guys, you go back and make sure everything is ok." I told the two others.

"You sure you can handle it?" Dakota asked me. I just glared at him and said yes.

"What do we tell the poor woman who's child just died?"

"Make something up Dakota, I don't care."

"Let's just go man." Dakota's friend said to him. After some grumbling, they departed from the den. I grabbed a blanket that was packed away in my backpack and threw it on the woman's naked body. It still perplexed me that none of the werewolves wore clothing. Suddenly, she grabbed me close to her and spoke.

"save me, I can't go on like this." she whispered before passing out.

"Can you hear me?" I asked to the limp body. all that came from her was a small twitch in her left arm. Knowing she was unconcious, I proceeded to think of what I was supposed to do with her.
