Anali stretched her arms forward, her spotted hands extended in a gesture of peace. She slowly started towards the human, hands wide. The human turned her head, glaring at Anali.
"H-e-l-l-o," she said slowly. "M-y n-a-m-e i-s-""I know English, furball," the human hissed. Anali stopped. Her ears flicked back, and her lips curled into a snarl. Anali was a cheetah digi, a small, furry being on two legs.
Jasper, Anali's roommate rounded the corner from the kitchen, gnawing on some kind of meat on a wooden skewer.
"Hey, Kitten," he started, looking at the meat with a puzzled expression. "How long has this takeout from the Fishing Cat been in the-" He looked up and saw the human. "-fridge."
Jasper was one of the most common types of hybrid, a flyer. He could have been mistaken for a human himself, had it not been for the four sharp canines that lined his jaw, along with regular teeth, his pointed ears, and the huge black wings sprouting from his back.
His feathers ruffled, his eyes narrowing into slits. "Who are you?" The corners of his mouth had twitched down, and the pointed tips of his teeth protruded from his lip.
Anali let out a puff of air, her tail flicking. "This is..." She extended her hand and slapped her fingers down onto her palm, trying to think.
"Zoe," the human grunted. She was fair, with rich brown skin and curly black hair that was cropped close to her jaw. She stared back at Jasper with eyes so dark brown he couldn't see her pupils.
"Okay, but why is she here," Jasper asked, acting as if Zoe had never spoken.
"She's going to the college, same as us," Anali told him.
"Yea, no, I get that Anali," he said flatly, "but why is she here, in our dorm?"
"Apparently the university put her in with us."
"And what is she?"
"She's a human."
Jasper grunted, his wings extending slightly in surprise, knocking over a
small vase and sending it crashing to the floor. It broke, spraying dirt and little pink flowers everywhere. He quickly turned and his left wing collided with a can of soda Anali had placed on the coffee table. He scowled and backed up into the kitchen, careful to avoid anything breakable.Anali sighed. She picked up the can and pushed past Jasper, placing it in the trash. Snatching up some paper towels, she dropped them on the spill and began stepping on the towels with a bare paw. Her claws were extended and her ears were pressed flat against her head, clearly annoyed. She picked up the wad and dropped it in the trash before grabbing the broom and starting to sweep up the dirt, flowers, and shattered terracotta.
"There's no way she's a human," Jasper snorted, tearing back into his food. "They all went extinct, remember? Maybe she's a neko that cut her ears and tail off," he said, mouth full.
"Why would any neko want to pass for a human, Jasper? And anyways, if
she had been a neko at one time, she wouldn't be able to hear," Anali pointed out. She eyed the Styrofoam box in his hands. "And that Fishing Cat takeout has been in there since Aerick's party."Jasper immediately dropped the plate into the trash can while spitting out the meat in his mouth. "Two months," he rumbled, grabbing a can of soda from the fridge. He took a swallow before looking at Anali. "No wonder the chicken tasted weird." He looked back at Zoe, taking her in.
"It's because we have an extra bed, isn't it?"
"Probably."
"But still, all of the humans died a long, long, time ago."
