My eyes slid open and I immediately felt how sore I was. All over my body. I groaned and stretched my back, feeling my bones cracking. Tomorrow I would go back, I'd see Cassius again. Hopefully, he wasn't angry anymore.
I sighed and turned on my side, now was a good chance to tell Nikolai about the funeral. But if Cassius found out, I didn't want to know what would happen to me. On the other hand, if Jamie found out I hadn't told him. Then I'd lose my best friend.
I chewed on my nails. Maybe if I gave him a hint. If I didn't tell him expressly. Then I could claim I hadn't told him if Cassius asked, and I could tell Jamie that I told Nikolai. It would only be a half truth, but it could work. Nikolai was smart, he'd understand. It must've been early in the morning, so Jamie was probably still asleep. The vampire might be awake though.
I nodded and crept towards Jamie's room. I sincerely hoped no one was naked. My fingers curled around the cool doorknob and I slowly pressed it open. Pale morning light filtered inside the room and shine down on the bed. I almost squealed in delight at seeing Jamie curled up against Nikolai's chest.
His face was relaxed and I could see his chest rising and falling with each gentle breath. Aww, they were so cute. Nikolai's back was to me and he had his arm slung over my friend's hip, pulling him close. I snapped out of my trance and carefully tiptoed towards Nikolai. I leaned down.
"Nikolai, I need to speak with you, it's important," I whispered, it sounded loud against the silence of the room. The vampire didn't respond, but I watched quietly as he pulled himself away from Jamie and pushed off the bed. I stepped out of the room and he followed.
We stood in the hallway.
"What is it?" He muttered, his voice was low and hoarse.
"I need you to send a message to Bane," I whispered urgently, that seemed to spark his interest. Nikolai shot a glance inside the room at Jamie before shutting the door.
"Tell me," he replied and crossed his arms across his chest.
"He has to keep his guard up on the day of the funeral," I murmured and swallowed the lump in my throat.
"Funeral?" Nikolai asked, his eyebrows furrowed, "Julius' funeral?"
I nodded gravely, "yes, they're planning something and it's going to happen then, Bane needs to know."
"Why are you telling me this?" He sounded skeptical and my heart dropped.
"Because if I don't tell you and something happens to Bane, then that's on me," I whispered and stared up at him.
"That's not much to go on," he was still doubting me.
"Look, Nikolai, you're important to Jamie, and I know that you and Bane are family," I explained and he nodded. "So if he got hurt then it would eventually involve Jamie and I don't want to lose my best friend."
We were still for a moment. He gave no signal if he were to agree.
"Alright, I'll tell him," Nikolai muttered with a curt nod. I sighed in relief.
"And by the way," I added before he could retreat, "if you ever, hurt Jamie, I'll rip off your balls."
The vampire looked uncomfortable at the idea, "duly noted."

A few hours later I watched Jamie zoom around the house in a disarray because he woke up late.
"Why didn't you wake me up Nikolai!?" He yelped and tried to pull his shoes on. The vampire had a cup of coffee in his hand as he walked into the living room.
