Line: "I never stood a chance, did I?"

It had been four months. Four months of hell ever since you and Tony called it quits. There was just too much fighting and jealously and it was all just breaking, so you ended it.

At the start you had done all you could to try to avoid Tony, but by that, it really just consisted of lying in your bed curled up in a ball, clutching a pillow where he used to sleep and spraying your room with cologne that smelt of him. Eventually though, you got better bit by bit, starting with leaving your room, then keeping your hygiene up, then your positivity, and now, what seemed the final step.

"Dinner was lovely," you spoke with a soft smile as your date for the evening, David, left you into the lounge of the tower. "It really was, I'm glad Wanda set this up." he smiled, nodding as he followed you into the open space, looking around. "It's a cool place, do you all live with Tony Stark?" he asked curiously as you sighed and crossed your arms, "Yeah.. yeah we do." you tried not too sound too bitter.
"He must be pretty amazing? Huh?"

You just chuckled awkwardly, "Has his moments I guess.." you nodded, yawning as the night was coming to a close and you just really wanted your bed. "This really has been a lovely date though, David, thank you." you smiled at the man politely.

David looked to you and smiled back, nodding, "My pleasure, just hope we can do this again soon?" he asked. "Hopefully." you responded as you watched him step closer to you, his hands hesitantly holding your arms as he leaned down, giving you a goodnight kiss.

You kissed him back obviously, but, it didn't feel right, not that he was a bad kisser, just you had been kissing Tony for so long he was all you were used to. Maybe it was the lack of facial hair? Or the way he held you? You really were not sure. But the moment was over soon enough as you lost your chance to pin point it, David smiling down at you, "Call me?" he asked, to which you nodded as a yes.

David stepped back, rather awkwardly to be honest as he walked back to the elevator, the doors opening and him stepping in as you watched David disappear from sight.

Once he was gone you sighed out, rubbing the back of your neck as you dropped your bag beside the coat rack, pulling off your coat and hanging it up, you stretched your back and yawned once more, ready to go to bed.

"He seems nice."

You looked up at the sudden realisation you weren't alone in the room, and as luck would have it, sitting in the corner of the lounge nursing a glass of scotch was Tony, he had kept the lights off, as if not wanting to be seen, one hand holding his glass and the other in his hair, his head down low and his eyes looking to the ground but seeming miles and miles away in his head.

"You scared me.." you sighed, speaking to Tony wasn't something you did often nowadays, so you just let that be the end of the conversation as you walked towards the staircase.

"So you're dating again," Tony spoke, rubbing his face, you paused in place before sighing and turning to face him, "Yeah, yeah I'm dating again." you confirmed. Tony just shrugged, "Been seeing him long?"
"First date."
"First date and already kissing you?" he almost judged.
"You did much more than kiss me on our first date."

Tony broke his staring contest with the ground, now looking you dead in the eye, the silence invading the room, "Glad you haven't forgotten everything about us." he spoke, his facial features seeming frozen to appear emotionless. You rose a brow at that, "I haven't forgotten anything." you said, insulted, he must of really thought of you as cold?

He scoffed, shaking his head, "Clearly."
"And what does that mean?"
"It means your out with another man."
"And why can't I be?" you spoke angrily back, standing at the foot of the stairs, watching as Tony got more irritated. "I'm single, Tony, you and me are non-existent."

"Don't say it like it's my fault." he snapped, "I'm not the one who just gave up."
"I gave up?"
"Yes you gave up!" he suddenly yelled, standing up, only setting you off. "You threw away all we had together! You threw away me! Because what do I matter, right?!" he yelled, his eyes watering.

You glared at him, "Don't give me that!" you ordered, "I only ended it because we were crumbling as it was, you can't put it all on me, Tony!" you nearly screamed back at him.

The yelling was intense amongst you, no doubt it woke the rest of the team up. And it lasted hours, you and Tony yelled and screamed and cried at eachother until the sun was starting to creep through the windows, both of you screaming your lungs out until all the built up feeings were out on the table, and now, you had tired yourselves out.

So here you both sat, opposite eachother on the floor of the lounge, both of you all screamed out with tear stained cheeks as the silence was finally back. You had nothing more to say, or yell, but the energy to get up was gone from you. You only lifted your weary head, looking out the large windows to watch the golden light starting to shine down on the city.

"I never stood a chance, did I?" you heard from across the coffee table, you turned to look at Tony, who sat there with a blank expression once more, his tears all dried up now just leaving him this way. "With you.." he furthered, "I don't know who I was kidding, a girl like you with a man like me.." he looked up at you slowly, his lips stuck in a frown, "We'll never work, will we?"

You looked back at him. Tony Stark. The man you loved. And always would. You looked at the mess you had made and he looked back to the mess he made, both of you so desperate to just love eachother. It would always be Tony, that's why kissing others didn't feel right, they weren't Tony.

You let your mind go through all this as he watched your facial features, as if trying to memorise them. You sighed, looking at the man you cared for more than anything in the world, "No, we won't."
