"Safa, your mom is awake she wants to see you," Faisal's mom told me gently , as I ate my cereal.

I almost choked on a lucky charm. Leaping out of my seat, I bounded towards her and hugged her tightly.

"Thanks so much, for everything," I whispered in her warm embrace.
This woman was like a mother to me for the past couple of days and I could be more appreciative.

She said nothing but hugged me tighter and kissed my cheek.

"Remember habo, you always have a home here no matter what," She spoke softly.

"Woahh am I interrupting something," Faisal's loud voice cut in.

I couldn't help myself but to squeal excitedly, "MY MOM IS AWAKE!!"

His eyes widened and a huge grin covered his features, "Holy shit Safa. Alhamdulilah,"

"Waryaa, watch your language," his mom chirped in half-heartedly.

"Sorry Hooyo," he smiled sheepishly, "But Safa go get ready so I can take you and your siblings,"

My heart flushed with warmth. He was so sweet man. I never thought the obnoxious loud-mouthed kid at the back of the class; fast forward, would offer to drive me to my mom in hospital.

If it wasn't for Habo Ifrah standing right there I would have hugged him. But I'm not trying give her any ideas, Somali mom's can twist anything they like.

"Thank you so much," I smiled, averting his gaze. This guy and his eye-contact, I don't know why but I automatically blush when his sharp gaze is fixated upon me. I hate attention, I cannot deal.

I legit sprinted to find my siblings, they were going to freak. Especially little Maya, this was the hardest for her. She still couldn't wrap her head around the concept of Hooyo being ill.

Eventually Hamda had told her in the most simplistic way possible, "Hooyo is in hospital having a long nap,"

Due to the severe smoke inhalation she endured, two weeks of her in a coma resulted. The surreal part is it all started with an egg.
As many things did...
**I couldn't resist sorry😂💔**

All of the kids sat crowded in the living room watching Black-ish.

Hamda sat sprawled across the couch, Maryam beside her with Maya sitting fondly on her lap.

Tariq and Hamza lay on the rug, their unnaturally long limbs thrown at disproportionate angles.

"GUYSS!" I cried making a dramatic entrance, "Mom is awake and we are gonna go see her now,"

Hamda screamed and rushed to me in excitement. "OMG OMG OMG. SAY WALLAHI,"

I laughed gleefully and embraced Maya who was tugging on my hoodie for a hug.

Hamza glanced at us with glassy eyes.
"Awww you crying bro?" Tariq teased him.

With a protest he stalked to their shared room claiming he would go and get ready to leave.

I sat shotgun in the car, Faisal at the wheel.
"This is your stop ladies and gentlemen," He drawled in front of the hospital.

We hopped out both anxious and giddy, expecting Faisal to climb out to.
"You coming?" Hamda pondered impatiently.

"I don't want to intrude in a family moment guys, let me just wait in the car," He scratched the back of his head.

I rolled my eyes and Hamza voiced my thoughts, "Shut up man you know she would love to properly meet you,"

"Hurry up!!!" Maya shrieked.

Throwing his hands up in protest he climbed out grinning.

"If you just take a seat my colleague will come and take you to Mrs Mohammed shortly." A stout woman with a clipboard informed us.

10 minutes of nervous bantering followed until a nurse called us.

"Just family right?" She looked at us pointedly, "Mrs Mohammed didn't mention a second son coming,"

My brain clamoured for excuses but Faisal replied, smooth as ever, "Just came back from college, she wasn't expecting me. Of course I would come,"

After an infamous grin, all doubt faded from the nurse and she giggled flirtatiously.

Hamza scoffed in amusement and I rolled my eyes in annoyance. She was pathetic.

Immediately as the thought entered my brain, I cringed. Ugh.

Was I jealous? Nope nope nope.

I didn't allow my mind to evaluate that thought and instead shoved past Faisal to follow the lady.

She lead us to small room down the corridor.

I spotted my mum attached to various drips and wires. So frail. So drawn.

My heart broke as her sunken eyes brightened and she croaked, "My babies,"
