My ringtone blared down my ear drums: a sound I had grown to hate with a vengeance.
The caller ID read Nasra, what emergency gave her the audacity to call me at such a unholy hour.
I glanced at the time 10:23am, well for a Saturday it's very very early.
"Hello?" I croaked in a hoarse voice.
"Wooooow. Of course Safa would be in bed at this time," she snickered.I went on to remind her the importance of beauty sleep before she rudely interrupted.
"Yo guess what day it is on Sunday?"
"The 18th?"
"You cannot be serious. Safaaaa is the snowflake ball!" The excitement was evident in her voice.I was half a sleep and even I let out a shrill screech.
"Well that means we all need to meet up somewhere to get ready, we usually get ready at Alicia's house but her new step-mom has been driving her crazy so we can't go to her's. My dad will ship me to Africa if I even wear lip gloss so that's cancelled, Layla is practically the same and Halima lives on the other side of town." She said in one breath.
I grunted in response, the words not absorbing in my head yet.
"Sooo...you want me to ask Faisal's mom if we can get ready here?"
"Yesss please please please!!! We gonna go full out watch. I'm gonna do everyone's make up." She rambled.
I laughed at her enthusiasm and told her I would ask her.

"Morning Habo", I chirped sitting down for breakfast.
This family were exactly my speed, breakfast on a Saturday is only suitable at 11:00 or after.I rolled up my malawax and dipped it in my tea. The right way to eat it, don't @ me.
"Morning macaanto (sweetie), had a good sleep?"
"Amazing. I wanted to ask if my friends could get ready for the Snowflake ball tomorrow here. There are 4 of them and they are all good, polite girls. Please can they come?" I begged.
Ifrah laughed at my earnestness, "Safa if your friends are anything like you of course they are welcome here, remember this is your home."
I thanked her nonstop and my heart warmed at her kindness.
Faisal sauntered in sleepily and plonked down stuffing a malawax pancake in his mouth.
"Ewww" Hamda complained, nibbling at her own.
"Waryaa if you want to eat like an animal I heard the neighbours have a dog kennel that's free so you can go there," Ifrah ordered him.
We all laughed whilst Faisal sheepishly caught my eye.
After breakfast I went and informed the group chat that they could come to mine.
They were all excited and spammed the chat with celebratory emojis, I rolled my eyes mirthfully.

Fast forward: the girls were on their way and I was running about mixing face masks and somehow blow drying my hair at the same time.
I was wearing a headscarf to the ball but it's nice to look good inside and out.
Dingg. Dingg. Followed by an entourage of excited chatter.
"Saffy!! We are gonna get turnt tonight, single with no intention to mingle!" Alicia squealed, slamming a small suitcase on my bed.
"Omg Faisal opened the door damn he looks so good in a hoodie," Halima drawled wistfully, "shame he's yours Saf,"
