Hello, those mundane, magical, and absolutely mad like me. How're we all doing today?
...
...
Not a chat, right. Anyway, this time 'round we're touching on the basics of sigils. There are two tried and true methods I use, the following more than the one after it out of habit, but do remember that The Practice is all about learning what works best for you.
I'm just forcing your head under the water so you get a look at what's underneath. Don't mind me~
Creating Sigils via Written Intent
First things first, if you only have a couple of moments or you don't have the wheel on hand, don't worry. Just write down what you want to happen as though it's already happened. Such as, "I can see the supernatural"
Some people strike out vowels, sometimes including y, sometimes not. Just remember that if you ever see Ψ/ ψ, that's psi not y. No matter what though, pick out individual letters - don't repeat yourself damn it, you'll sound like my mother - to find the basic shapes you'll work with. In the example's case; C, N, S, T, H, P, R, L.
Now, we throw them into a picture. That's a very lazy way of saying it, but it's true. Taking your letters, stylize them, change them, break them, even merge them until you get a sign that is reminiscent of your intent, but should someone unaware see it they could not tell its exact purpose. For example, from our example; That's so fuckin' messy, forgive me. Ahem.
As ya can see, all three resulting sigils have various forms. Honestly, I was 'spaced out' while drawing these, as I normally am, so I can't say there's inspiration from anything save for the middle one appearing similar to kanji and other script types, the rightmost one vaguely reminiscent of Egyptian glyphs.
Now-
Using a Sigil Wheel
This one takes a little more set up. Akin to the first, you'd take an intent, tracing a line through the letters within the sigil circle to either turn the phrase into one single sigil, or making multiple sigils and linking them together. And for now, until someone mentions something to me or I randomly remember something else, that's all! 'Till next class!
Notes-
Occasionally one may 'see' or just 'know' a sigil without having previously created it. Don't fret, simply write it down for later, see if you see it later, so on so forth, and if all else fails show it around and ask if anyone else has seen it.
A sigil can technically be made of anything, on anything, though the most common tools are pens, pencils, markers, paper, leaves/biomatter, and other easily obtained goods.
