"You're not rich until you have something money can't buy."
I leave to be a camp counselor today, I'm only a temporary counselor as I need to get back to school and work and can't keep missing those to help make friendship bracelets by a lake, even though I really miss being a camper and I don't mind spending time with the kids.
I wasn't able to bring my own vehicle because of camp rules, and assuming it was only a three hour drive we all had to take the bus there and get a ride back on the head counselors van.
_________
Walking onto the campsite isn't quite as exciting as it once was to me.The same smell of pine and wood filled my nostrils.
The same wood log I had my fisrt kiss with Donny vadder on was still in the same spot. The same dumb initials me and all my old bunk mates carved are still here and there on the trees.
Instead of running to meet up with my camp friends like I did when I was younger. I just walked straight to my cabin.
Ah the good old cabin three.
Emily and I have so many memories in here.
The same carvings in the bunk beds too.
Running my fingers over these sent me Into nostalgia overdrive.
Till I remembered I'm in charge of the three campers in this cabin.
Jen, Margret, and Emma.
****
The girls decided I get top bunk because jen was scared of falling off of the top, Margret attempted to jump up off of the top bunk, and Emma didn't care where she slept as long as she had her allergy pills and bug spray.
We got here late. So we were only able to do the camp meet and greet at the lake and a group prayer, then eat and head to the cabin.
_____
Camp day two.We all woke up and I walked down to the dining commons with jen, Emma and Margaret.
We went through the line grabbing what we wanted to eat.
"When you get to your age do you watch what you eat for boys?" Emma asked me as I reached for the bacon.
"Oh, Emma. No of course not, you shouldn't really care what they think of you, you should care for yourself, take care of yourself, stay true to yourself, but not for anyone else. I mean of course take of your health, but as long as your happy with yourself it shouldn't matter " I replied and we all sat down at the table.
Same kinds of carvings from when i was a camper are still engraved into this table, I remeber the old councilors saying they would 'sand' the engravings out, obviously that didn't happen.
"Plus, you're only in the sixth grade, the only boys you should be thinking about are the ones in movies or whatever, like made up ones is twilight still a thing?." I replied.
After breakfast me and my girls headed down the the craft benches down by the lake.
We started making dream catchers and friendship bracelet.
"How's your cabin doing girls?" Cleo one of the girls from the church asked sittin down.
"Great, but Lynn snores." I looked up from my bracelet
"What?" I asked.
"Its okay, so do we, you're just older, so you're louder." Margaret replied.
We all laughed.
Since tonight was the last night, for me.
I decided to take my girls to the bonfire.
We roasted marshmallows and told ghost stories it was really nice.
After about two hours on the lake and in the bonfire place we headed back up the cabin.
I really wish I could go camping soon, and not for working, like an actual break from work and school having fun, swimming, bon fires. Maybe with my family, maybe with Emily, maybe even with Ryan.
Ryan and I would look good together around a bonfire making Smores. Laughing, singing to stupid songs, maybe even a good song.
Oh my god Lynn, stop thinking about something that's never gonna happen.
