CHARACTERS:
SOPHIE: A young Mexican girl.
EZEKIEL: A young friend of SOPHIE's.
TIME
Present Day, Saturday night.
PLACE
SOPHIE's room, in southern Mexico.
At Rise: SOPHIE and EZEKIEL are sitting on SOPHIE'S bed, deep in conversation.
SOPHIE: Why have you stopped talking to me (Pause) I've been seeing you less and less.
EZEKIEL: I'm just doing what you asked.
SOPHIE: I didn't ask anything, what's going on?
EZEKIEL: (Silence)
SOPHIE: (Tempered) Stop ignoring me!
EZEKIEL: I'm not ignoring you, I've been with you for years-
SOPHIE: Well you're not acting like it.
EZEKIEL: Look, calm down, you're over reacting.
SOPHIE: (Murmurs) Why are you being so mean.
EZEKIEL: I don't know! Why are you so angry?
SOPHIE: (Silence)
EZEKIEL: I think you're right though, I am ignoring you kinda. Just give me a bit of space.
SOPHIE: Why do you want to go away?!
EZEKIEL: I don't! (Pause) I don't want to leave you. You're the only friend I've got.
SOPHIE: You think I'm any different?
EZEKIEL: Then why are you pushing me away-
SOPHIE: I'm not the one pushing you away, you're the one saying you're gonna leave me!
EZEKIEL: Sophie, I'm not sure what to do.
SOPHIE: What do you mean?
EZEKIEL: (Pause) I don't think I can go with you.
SOPHIE: You have to, I'm all you've got.
EZEKIEL: I'm not you toy, so stop trying to control me!
SOPHIE: I'm not, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!
EZEKIEL: You don't get it. I want to go, but I have to stay.
SOPHIE: What? Why?
EZEKIEL: I don't know. But I can't go to Nuevo Léon with you.
SOPHIE: That's not my choice! Papa got a new job in Nuevo Léon! It's not like I want to move!
EZEKIEL: I don't want you to either.
SOPHIE: You have to come. There isn't anything here for you.
EZEKIEL: Why are you making me?
SOHPIE: Because I'll be alone without you.
EZEKIEL: It's because of Adrian, isn't it?
SOPHIE: Wh-What do you mean?
EZEKIEL: This is because we're so much alike and because you're moving away.
SOPHIE: You don't get it. You're just like him, I can't just leave him behind. He was my best friend, we did everything together, and I don't wanna forget that. If I leave you behind, if I move on, it'll be like he'll be stuck in the past, and I don't wanna forget him!
