Silver Lining

CHARACTERS:

KYLIE: A young girl in her late teen years. She is dressed plainly, but not poorly. She is a little rough around the edges and is very bold, but not to a point of being callous or cocky.

JONATHAN: A boy around his late teens. He is dressed simply as well. He is clumsy and a bit bashful, but is more courageous and caring than most.

AMELIA: She is a young, springy, energetic girl at the age of 10. She is head over heels for JONATHAN, and is glued to his side. She is envious of most other girls, including KYLIE (her older sister), but bears no hatred in her kind heart.

THE DARKNESS: It is dark, cold, deadly and destroys everything in its path.  It spreads through the land, showing no mercy and is unstoppable. 

TIME

Late afternoon, the sky is set with a gold, yellow-orange tinge.

PLACE

The outskirts of a middle-sized village, nothing about it is particularly special.

At Rise: We see Kylie leaving the village sorrowfully, a stuffed bag on her back and a few weapons peeking out of the top.

Act 1, Scene 1.

Enter JONATHAN and AMELIA.

JONATHAN: Amelia, why do you think she's leaving?

AMELIA: It must be the Darkness, she's probably going to try save everyone, that's what she does. 

JONATHAN: Well, we can't let her go alone. 

AMELIA: Why? It's her choice. 

JONATHAN: Yes, it is, but that doesn't change the fact that she might not come back. I don't want anyone else to suffer from the Darkness like this. 

AMELIA: Neither do I, but what can we do, neither of us can fight like her. 

JONATHAN: Who said we had to fight... (JONATHAN follows after KYLIE, with AMELIA attached to his hand.)

AMELIA: What do you mean? Of course we have to fight. If the Darkness gets to close we have to find a way to escape it. 

JONATHAN: But that doesn't mean we have to fight it. What if... what if I try and lock it up. I can put the Darkness somewhere it can't hurt anyone ever again. How does that sound?

AMELIA: If anyone can save us it's you Jonathan, you can do anything! (AMELIA shouts loud, catching the attention of KYLIE.)

KYLIE: Hey what do you think the two of you are doing!? Amelia why aren't you at home!? Why do you have my sister so far from the village!? (She storms towards JONATHAN, grabbing him by the collar.)

AMELIA: No!! Let go of him Kylie!! You're not aloud to touch him!! (KYLIE and JONATHAN are both taken aback by AMELIA's sudden out burst.)

KYLIE: Amelia...

AMELIA: No Kylie, you always try and do things by yourself, you never ask for anyone's help. Well too bad! We're going to help you this time, we're going to stop the darkness with you! (She marches ahead, pulling JONATHAN along, leaving KYLIE standing there shocked.)

JONATHAN: Amelia... Don't be so hard on her... You know she was only trying to help you.

AMELIA: I know, but if I don't teach her that she doesn't have to do is alone, no one will. That's my job as her little sister.
