Also if I was gonna make a story based off a character in this book, who would you want it to be?The party was in full swing, music blasted through the air, people found themselves over by the snack bar and Brook found herself bouncing back and forth between groups of people.
"Hey stranger," Someone said.
Brook turned to see who it was, her eyes meeting a pair of light brown ones.
"Hey Kai," She replied.
She reached in for a brief hug, which he returned. "I feel like I haven't seen you since...Ya know."
Kai laughed, waving his hands in dismissal.
"It's only been like a week, I think? Has it been? Ah fuck it I can't remember."
This time, it was Brook's turn to laugh. She had forgotten how easy it was to talk to Kai, how natural and laid back everything felt. Brook felt it was different with Connor sometimes. She felt as if Connor could be an asshole.
Brook's mind jumped to Connor again.
Where is he? She wondered in her head, scanning the crowds of people for her mate.
"He's off talking to some of the elders," Kai answered for her. It was as if Kai had heard her thoughts, but really he just knew by the change in her expression.
Brook on the other hand, felt irritated that her mate wasn't bothering to greet her. This was her day anyways, not his.
She glanced back at Kai when he started to speak,
"You look gorgeous tonight, and Connor's an ass for not being over here."
It took Brook by surprise that Kai was complementing her. Both of them knew that if Connor heard that, he would be beyond angry.
But instead of saying that to Kai, Brook responded.
"Thank you, I have to say you look great tonight as well."
Brook admired how Kai wasn't normally the type to dress up fancy, but tonight he looked fancy.
He wore a pink suit, with a black tie and some black dress shoes.
Despite how most people were wearing oranges and yellows, Brook loved how the color suited Kai's complexion.
"Now don't go soft on me, Bradley. I still need someone to occasionally whoop my ass." Kai joked with Brook, "Speaking of whooping my ass, your mate is on his way over."
Brook turned around to see her mate approaching her. She could sense tension already radiating off of Connor, and she figured that was because she was talking an god forbid, laughing with another guy.
"I'm going to grab some drinks," Kai mumbled. He bowed his head at Connor, before he ran off.
"Great, you scared my only source of entertainment away." Brook said to Connor, who still had his eyes trained on Kai. "Hey! My eyes are here, not there."
Connor turned his attention to Brook, not bothering to hide his irritation. He hated how close Kai and Brook were, and deep down Connor had a feeling that Kai saw Brook as more than just a friend.
"Why were you talking to Kai?" Connor questioned, utterly shocking Brook.
That's the first thing he had said to her all day, and that was what he decided to say.
