Now the time has come...
I walked down Burnett Street under the dark sky. My umbrella was in my hand, and I looked around to observe my surroundings.
"Oy, how many was that?" I heard a man ask, carrying another crate to his carriage.
"8." His, I assume, business partner replied.
I looked away, and continued to the building. As I walked in, there was a room full of men having a good time sitting around a money crowded table. The lights were lightly dim, and smoke was in the air.
Everyone turned to look at me. You could hear a pin drop.
"Langley." I began. "Do you know his whereabouts?" I said confidently.
A very tall, muscly man stood up from his seat. He was smoking a pipe, and he proceeded towards me. I gripped my umbrella a little tighter.
"And who are you?" He asked, smoke hitting my nose. "Did you take a wrong turn?"
"This is 450 isn't it, so I believe I didn't. And who I am to you doesn't matter, just know I have a meeting with Mr. Langley." I didn't back down.
All the other men looked at the man in front of me with eyebrows raised.
"He ain't here yet lady." A man from the back said, throwing some money onto the table.
"Then I believe I'll just wait, if that isn't a problem with you boys." I shrugged.
"That ain't no problem with us." A different man with a raggedy hat on said in a strong Scottish accent. The man in front of me looked back giving a look.
I gave him a smile, and walked past him. I went to pull up a seat to the table. The men just watched me like they haven't seen a woman in years.
"What are you playing, Cheat?" I asked, they nodded.
"You ever played?" One man asked.
"You want to find out?" I smirked.
Time Skip...
"I call bull shit!" The muscly man from earlier, who I know now as Ace, said laughing.
"I'm not bluffing!" I smiled, and held my cards against my chest.
"Oh please." The men put off my comment. "Let's see then!"
Ace put his cards down, and I took one more glance at my own. I put my cards down, and the men got excited.
"We knew it!" They laughed, and took their drinks. "I want my money Nigel, you owe me. I knew she'd win." I heard one man say.
We were going to start another round until the door was flung open. Langley stood in the doorway, probably wondering what the hell was going on.
"What's this?" He waved his hand at the men.
The men gathered their composure, and acted normally. I turned to look at Langley, and placed some money I've won in my bra.
"You're a little late..." I said. I got up, and walked over to him.
"Your men are very welcoming." I said. "Were they originally there to intimidate?" I asked.
Peter didn't say anything. He waved his hand up and all the men scattered from the room. He didn't lose eye contact with me.
"I'm glad you came." He gave a light smile.
"My pleasure." I faked.
We went to take a seat back at the table to begin what I was originally there for.
