{lily Evans ~ age 11}
I traced my fingers along the gorgeous; smooth; old wood of the window pane and gazed out at what lay past it. The sun was only just starting to rise but I'd already been awake for over an hour. We had breakfast in less than an hour and after that lessons. My first ever lesson at Hogwarts. Transfiguration; to be precise.
My whole body buzzed with a happy excitement, glad that everything had run smoothly so far. Well, almost everything... There had been a few bumps along the way, for example potter and his newfound friends who I already found mildly annoying while by themselves but mind numbingly irritating when they were together.
There was them. And then of course there was the fact that Sev, my best, and only, friend I knew from back home and I had been sorted into different houses. Him into slitherin, which everyone else I'd met so far has assured me is a horrible house, and me into gryffindor, which might not have serverus in it but I'd already grown rather fond and proud of.
I stifled a yawn and walked over to wake the rest of the girls in my dorm. Mary, Alice and Dorcas all woke up and rubbed at their eyes sleepily while I resorted to shaking Marlene who for whatever reason WOULD NOT wake. Suddenly, her eyes popped open, she mumbled something about me "being such a mother" and "letting her sleep" before flinging herself over to the other side of the bed and going back to sleep.
About twenty minutes later the five of us were sitting at the gryffindor table in the great hall, awaiting breakfast. It had taken us all fifteen minutes to get Marlene to finally wake up and by then we had barely any time to get ready and run down to breakfast. Unsurprisingly we all looked a mess.
I looked around the hall to see if there was anyone I knew there. I saw a few new ravenclaws and hufflepuffs that I had chatted to on the train, looking appropriately fascinated by everything around them. I scanned the further side of the hall, eyes panning across the slitherin table until I spotted Sev. My mood instantly lifted and I waved and shouted to him excitedly. To my surprise he looked up, his eyes registering on me for a few seconds, before going back to talking to his friends, completely ignoring me.
I turned back to my own table, dejected. I looked up and down the long gryffindor table to see it was pretty much completely full, for the small but very noticeable exception of James potter and his friends. Dumbledore came out at the front of the hall and I chose to puss the thoughts of the raven haired boy and his friends to the back of my mind and focus on what the headmaster had to say instead.
Just as dumbledore finished speaking, and out breakfast appeared on our table, Potter walked in, closely followed by Peter and then Remus, who had his arm around a sniffling, red eyed Sirius Black, rubbing his shoulder comfortingly, in a protective way. Little did I know at that moment I knew that the alarm bells going off in my mind earlier had been more correct than I ever wanted them to be.
