Chapter 1

RING!!

Ugh. Third period, is finally over. I gathered up my bags and headed out into the hallway. I looked around for Zuri, but didn't see her, so decided to head to my locker.

Zuri is my best friend! She has been for I don't know how long, she is awesome! Funny, nice and smart. And she is one of the prettiest girls I have ever met, but she doesn't believe anyone who tells her that.

"Jasper!!!!!" I heard someone yell.

I looked in the direction of the screech, and saw Zuri running towards me.

"Babe!!!!" I yelled back, as she ran up to me. She laughed at my name.

"Babe?" She smiled at me, "Well, that's a new name." She laughed again.

I put my hand up, as if to fake silence her. "Don't worry babe, I know you love it!" I said as I smirked and winked at her, pretending to be Calem Rhodenizer. Our schools player and jock. Did I mention he sucks? No, well....he does!!

At this, she fell to the floor laughing, and people started staring at us, which as a result, I made a bunch of funny faces at them, to make them think we are even weirder, and then we walked away to the cafeteria with our arms hooked.

"Hey, so did you hear about the new boy?" Zuri asked, as we sat down at our usual lunch table.

"New boy? What new boy?" I asked. I hadn't heard of any new boys.

"Come on Jasper, he was in your art class this morning!"

Huh. You would think I would notice these types of things. I normally would, but in my defence, in art class I am fully focused on the task at hand. Which happens to be art, so if some random new guy comes into class without my noticing, well I'm sorry! Sue me! But art is one of my favourite classes, so don't expect any less.

"Oh...whoops?" I said, shrugging my shoulders and putting my hands up innocently.

Zuri rolled her eyes.

"Yeah. Sure. Ok. Whatever." She said. Which at that response I laughed.

"What?" She said.

"You looked like grumpy cat when you said that!" I said through laughter.

She gasped and let her mouth fall open.

"DID NOT!" She said!

"Did too! And close your mouth, you'll catch flies." I said as I reached over and closed her mouth for her, gave her a overly big fake smile and took a huge bite out of my sandwich.

"Hmph!" Zuri crossed her arms over her chest and proceeded to do her best imitation of my 6 year old cousin Millie, when she doesn't get her own way.

I studied her and put my hand on my chin as if I was stroking my imaginary beard as I observed her.

"Very good!" I exclaimed. "But I think it would be better if you scrunched your nose and eyebrows up more, and put your mouth in a tighter line!" I said, and nodded as if to conclude my observations.

She looked at me in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

"Weren't you just doing your best imitation of my 6 year old cousin?" I asked smirking a little to myself. "I mean you had the whole look and everything. Right down to the arms crossed and head lowered.

She looked even more peeved as she reached over and whacked me in the shoulder.

I laughed. "Ok! Ok! Sorry, it was a joke Zuri."

"Ok, fine." She said.

"Besides, only you can scrunch your eyebrows up so much when you get in a poopy attitude!" I said, smiling encouragingly as if that were the best thing ever.

Zuri groaned angrily, but couldn't help but grin a little as she said, "you sure are one of a kind Jasper."

"Can I be 4 of a kind? That's better in that handheld Yahtzee game I have home!" I asked.

"That is your Pocket Poker game, and no." She said.

I chuckled. "Ok fine."

I took another huge bite out of my sandwich, and just as I did, Zuri said: "Hey look, there's the new kid coming now."

I looked over with a mouth full of sandwich, at the boy walking through the cafeteria. I almost choked on some ham when I saw him. He was "vewy pwetty" as Millie would be saying right about now. He seemed to notice me for some odd reason, (most likely because I had close to over a quarter of my sandwich stuffed in my mouth) and looked over at me. I'm pretty sure that some of my sandwich fell out of my mouth and landed on my brand new shorts, when I made eye contact with him. That's right ladies and gentlemen, I know how to be attractive around boys. Yeah, I can be a real hottie.

He looked kinda confused as he saw the food fall from my mouth when he looked at me, and kept walking to the lunch line.

When I looked back at Zuri, she was smirking really big with her eyebrow cocked.

"What?" I asked with my mouth still full.

"Nothing." She said, seemingly smiling to herself. "I'm just glad you weren't doing your impression of my dog! When she's happy or excited to see someone, she's pees herself!" She laughed.

"I wasn't excited or happy, I don't even know him. But I may have peed a little, see that liquid on the bench? What do you think it is?" I said seriously.

"Eewww!" She exclaimed, scooting away from the mystery liquid.

"Just kidding, it's my apple juice. I spilled some on the bench when I turned to see the new dude." I said, laughing at her reaction.

She smiled at me and patted my head. "Sure it is Jasper, whatever you say." She said, as she got up to throw her garbage in the trash.

"It is!" I said as I got up and hurried after her, to throw my lunch remains away too.

Ok! So, hey guys! First chapter!! I know it's super short!! Sorry. But I mainly wanted this first chapter to just kinda introduce some characters, and their personalities and stuff.

Tell me what you guys think! Do you like Zuri and Jasper's personalities? What do you think of the characters?

I think I'm going to enjoy writing this book more than most I've written! I hope you guys like it too!

I want to change the title of this story, any suggestions?
