I set the box on my bed and groaned, I ached.
I was moving into my first house, all by myself. I was 19 now and finally ready for some freedom.
I fell back on my bed next to the box and inhaled a few breaths, then exhaled. My phone went off and I kept my eyes sealed shut. I searched around for my phone with my hand and held it up to my ear, "Misery speaking."
"Olive you need a new way of answering your phone."
I smiled, "Nah I think I'm good." I informed my best friend and sat up, "Maybe you just need a new friend." I shrugged.
"You're funny." She said. We were both always the outcasts and we knew it.
"Fae you need Jesus."
"Bitch I'm a fairy. Jesus ain't gonna touch me." She said.
I started laughing uncontrollably, it was funny because her name actually means fairy or some shit.
"Just shut up and get your house looking presentable. I'll be over to check the place out in a little less than an hour." She said.
I was still laughing too hard, I didn't even say bye or anything I just hung up. I wiped a tear from my eye as my laughter died down, once I was finished I made a last small chuckle to myself and began downstairs. I had to tidy the place up a little, I mean, she WAS my best friend after all and she didn't care if my place looked like a mess, but might as well get a head start ya know?
Half way down the stairs I thought I heard whispers. I froze dead in my tracks waiting to hear the strange sounds again. Nothing. I shrugged and continued down the stairs. Must've only been my imagination.
But... what if there were spirits or something here? I chuckled to myself and shook my head quickly dismissing the thought.
That's just.... Crazy.
~~~~~~~~~~
I was standing at the counter leaned against it and reading a comic book when I heard laughs, I dismissed it as neighborhood kids, I continued reading. I heard it again and decided to look at what was so funny. I looked out my window, the street was completely clear. I closed the curtain, strange. I shrugged and turned around only to be met by hazel eyes, I was completely stunned, then I blinked and they were gone.
What the hell?
I didn't want to question it anymore. My imagination did get a bit wild at times.
I then heard a banging on my door, I knew it was Fae but I decided to have some fun with this. "Who is it?" I called. I expected her to respond back with 'the police, open up!' or 'your mom. You better have your room clean child!' or something like that, but I got no response. I raised an eyebrow and got closer to the door, "Who is it?" I repeated.
No answer.
I unlocked the door and opened it to an empty yard, "What-" I began to mumble to myself, then Fae suddenly jumped into sight.
"Boo!" she said.
I jumped a little and she laughed as she walked past me inside. I closed the door, "Fuck you bro, fuck you."
She shrugged, and looked around in awe, "Nice place," she nodded.
"Thanks," I said and started to the fridge, knowing my best friend so well that I knew the first thing she'd want when she got here would be food.
She sat at the table that had been left here by the previous owners. "What do ya want?" I asked.
She leaned back in her chair to get a better view of the contents in the fridge. Since I had just moved in, it didn't consist of much. But I had picked up some things from the store on the way here. Mainly it was just milk, butter, cheese, and a carton of tea. Yes they sale those.
