it was never a too late

a week or two have already passed eversince donghyuck and mark got together. the two always walked side by side, holding hands. others find them too disgusting, but who cares?
they're deeply inlove with each other anyways
after mark's class, he rushed to donghyuck's last class—science. they planned on going to that one ice cream shop where donghyuck saw lami and mark together.
mark's eyes were already closing when he felt a hand on his cheek, "ya, i told you not to wait for me," he felt his cheeks heat up "how long have you been waiting?" donghyuck asked worriedly
mark stood up feeling energized again, "don't worry about that, worry about your grades in science." he poked donghyuck's forehead and giggled
the latter scrunched his nose and fastened his pace, mark never fails to annoy him. the older ran up to donghyuck and grabbed his arm, which led him to hold his hands. intertwining their fingers.
"ugh, could you plea-" donghyuck tries to speak but gets cut by mark, "but don't you like it? i mean, you always started these ever since we got together." mark spoke plastering a cheeky smile
they arrived at their destination and took a seat, "i'll go to the counter." mark stood up and walked away
donghyuck placed his left cheek on top of his hand and impatiently waited, the line was too long for him to wait. when he was about to stand up, he heard the glass door open. a group of three came in
lami, koeun, herin donghyuck one by one whispered their names. he observed the friends while waiting for his ice cream *cough cough* mark. the girls seemed to be looking for something, a table, perhaps.
after a few seconds of looking, lami smiled and pointed at the table near donghyuck and mark's. the two older girls smirked and started walking.
they sat comfortably and started talking to each other. donghyuck realized what he was doing, at some point, he thinks he's being too creepy.
"lamii, i heard your thing about that mark guy. was it true?" donghyuck overheard
"it is but, ugh. i was really the first to approach, but you know, some person was too desperate to claim that title. sadly, that person succeeded." lami looks at donghyuck, "we would be together by now if i confessed first." she added
he heard a giggle from koeun, "they didn't seem to like each other that much too. piggy probably used some spell." the friends laughed
the three stood up and walked near donghyuck, "oh! did you hear everything?" lami raised her eyebrow "you should remember that i, was first. not you." she smiled and walked away.
oh how i want to rip off that non-existent eyebrow of hers donghyuck thought
a pat was felt on his shoulder, "hyuckie, what's wrong?" donghyuck looked up to see mark holding two cones of ice cream
donghyuck was not fine. definitely not. it was true that she was the first to approach him, but he was first to confess, right?
donghyuck grabbed his ice cream and stood up, "let's go to that cliff beside the river." mark's eyes enlarged in shock, "no i'm not gonna jump, dummy." donghyuck rolled his eyes
they took another walk, a longer one. it was peacefully quiet, no one or nothing interrupted it. just peaceful.
when they arrived, they sat under a tree almost finishing their ice cream. even with the beautiful scenery, donghyuck still looked like he was staring off in space, thinking of something.
mark ruffled his hair in worry, "seriously donghyuck, what's wrong?" he was about to stand up when donghyuck spoke, "is it true? i-is it true that if lami confessed earlier you would've been the couple today? is it true that everything was just a 'too late'?" donghyuck asked
"what do you mean?" mark spoke and kneeled in front of the boy, "i knew it." donghyuck whispered but made sure to let mark hear every word
donghyuck bit his lip, trying to avoid himself from crying. he cracked the ice cream cone he was holding from disappointment until he couldn't stop it anymore. there he was, sobbing in front of mark who was still trying to figure out what was happening.
donghyuck kept on wiping his tears and spoke, "d-did you know that, at first i k-kept on thinking on how i could get rid of you?" he tried to speak between the sobs "i have always wanted lami, i-i always tried to make plans but i never got the right timing to do so..."
"but in the end, i realized that it wasn't her whom i wanted anymore
it was you..."
mark felt his heart beat go faster, a tear fell from his eye and he smiled. the latter held donghyuck's cheek and leaned forward. it made donghyuck nervous, but he tried to go with the flow.
"don't worry hyuckie, even from the start i already liked you,
it was never a too late..."
donghyuck closed his eyes but ends up getting mark's ice cream on his face, "come on!" donghyuck scrunched his nose like a kid, "ayeee, what were you thinking?" mark laughed and kissed donghyuck's nose
in the end, it was them who got together. no matter how much one hated the other, it was still too weak to be a wall to separate them from each other. so instead, they had love form. not as a wall, but as an unbreakable ribbon that will always keep them together.
