Tabitha raised her eyebrows as she got out of the car, realizing for the first time that he had no way to get home. "You don't have a car Sebastian. How are you going to get home?"
He smirked mockingly and pushed his hands into his pockets. "Do you really have to ask that Tabitha?"
She rolled her eyes and grinned back, folding her arms. "I guess not... I'll see you tomorrow at school then?"
Sebastian winked, turning to leave faster than humanly possible. "Perhaps... or perhaps I will be out hunting down a particularly old vampire."
Tabitha held back a shudder at the implication in his words but grinned, keeping back the disappointment that bloomed inside her. "Well then I will see you tomorrow evening..."
He'd already left and she was sure he heard her as he disappeared around the corner. Tabitha watched, staring at that corner for a few minutes before turning and heading up to her house, her mind spinning with everything she'd seen that evening. Everything she'd done and felt over the past week.
Tonight was different than any other night though. It felt like... a tipping point. As if someone had just crossed a line, the tides turning and soon someone was going to have to fight back. The past week had been the quiet before the storm and Tabitha had a dark feeling that the storm was approaching.
Alistair had just made the first move. He went after Carlos and could have killed him. And now thanks to Sebastian Tabitha knew what he wanted. He wanted the Moirai. She didn't understand why. Why would a vampire want to control a vampire killing organization? Tabitha had heard stories of vampires who hated themselves. Hated their nature and would kill themselves and as many others as they could. But she couldn't understand why Alistair would want the Moirai. If he hated his nature, hated his vampirism than why didn't he just end himself? Why got to all this trouble to take over an organization full of vampire hunters?
Tabitha stripped her yellow boots off at the door and went to the kitchen where she found her mom cooking a dinner for two, her phone between her shoulder and ear. "Derrick no, it's fine. We would love to have you."
Love to have him? Over? Tabitha sat down at the table and raised her eyebrows at her mom who held up a finger. She nodded. "Yes. Yes, it's fine. No big deal. And I already know Diana's busy. She has a full schedule this semester. Tabitha and I will just have to settle for you. Alright... ok... I love you too sweetie. We'll see you Friday."
She hung up and Tabitha didn't waste any time. "Friday? Why's Derrick coming over on Friday?"
Not that she didn't love having her big bro around but... well he got annoying sometimes. Thinking he's all that. Still a real vampire hunter when Tabitha was pretty sure he hadn't touched a stake in years. Her mom smiled and stopped cooking, leaning against the kitchen counter. "He wants to visit. He misses you... us."
Tabitha folded her arms and sat back in her chair. "You mean he's coming because you asked him to. You need to stop worrying about me, Mom. Besides Derrick... he can't help me with the kind of problems I'm dealing with."
Her mom sighed and shrugged, waving her spatula in the air. "Well at least let him try because he is worried for you and I'm worried for you so can you just... please try? Or pretend to let him help you at least."
Tabitha grimaced but relented, getting up. "Fine. But he better not go all Responsible-I-Know-Best-Big-Brother on me. Because I can handle myself."
Mom pointed the spatula at her and smiled. "Thank you and I we all know you can. Just give him a chance."
Tabitha sighed. "Fiiine."
Thank goodness tomorrow was only Thursday. Tabitha could go on her evening out with Sebastian without Derrick breathing down her neck.
For the rest of the evening Tabitha had dinner and got some homework done and by the time nine o'clock rolled around she was exhausted. Fighting with Sebastian had taken a lot out of her. Not to mention seeing a bloody and almost dead guy today. Having the world of vampire's rush back into her life a little too quickly. Tabitha didn't need to see any more blood for a long time.
As she curled up inher bed she closed her eyes and dreamt of Alistair with her blood running downhis chin and everyone she loved bleeding out on the floor around her.
