Experiments (part 1/2)

JACK'S POV

As soon as I stepped foot on that base I started acting like a kid in a candy store. I was about to go snoop in every room, check out every machine, talk to everyone, but Gabe stopped me. "Calm down Jack, we need to act professional" he said with a mocking tone on his voice. I just pouted and stood still by his side. Everyone got in line, me and Gabe on the front, then we saw the silhouette of a person coming down the hall. As it got closer to us I realized it was an omnic. For what I understood omnics were fairly new. We didn't have them when I was a child, I believe they started making them around when I joined the military. I was really excited, since it was the first one I had seen in my entire life. She had a body that resembled a female shape, so I believed she was a girl, she was wearing a lab coat and a black skirt that ended on her knees. "Welcome ladies and gentlemen" she started saying. Her voice was mechanical but it seemed to have a human touch to it, it was really fascinating. " My name is DAR14, I am the lead scientist in this facility and I thank you for having accepted my invitation. Now please, follow me" she said as the line started moving. She took us on a little tour around the facilities, at first it wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be, just the dorms, the cafeteria, etc. But then she lead us to a gigantic door, and above was a sign that said, "LAB". My eyes lit up, now this what was what I signed up for. The door opened to reveal a great amount of rooms, each had a window leading to the hallway so what we could se what was happening inside. "This is where your tests will be done" she started saying, DAR14, was it? "I assure you that these tests are safe, although they are still experimental, so I can't be sure" she said bringing a little bit of worry to me and probably the others. "But that is why I asked for the best soldiers, so don't worry, I believe you can handle them". I was astounded, every room looked different, full of machines and scientists, each one more fascinating than the last. We approached the end of the lab, another big door was there. DAR14 lead us through it, on the other side was the entrance, we had done a full circle. "Well, I hope all of you enjoyed the tour, does anybody have questions?" She said, nobody answered anything. "Perfect, now, I'm going to give you guys your keys to your respective dorms, you'll need to be in pairs" she said. I instantly hugged Gabe,"you're coming with me". As soon as we got or key/card, we headed to our room. Inside it was quite comfortable, nothing too fancy but still expensive-looking. It only had two rooms, the living room/kitchen, and the bedroom. We had separate beds, which kind of disappointed me, but I'd have to live with it. Gabe opened the closet door to see it full of fresh clothes of different sizes. "Wow, they even gave us free clothes, not bad" he said with a smile on his face. I was just looking at Gabe inspect the room, smiling. I knew it was kind of creepy but I couldn't help myself, he was just so...perfect.

I heard a knock on the door and instantly went to open it. I was greeted by another omnic. "Jack Morrison, Gabriel Reyes" it started saying as Gabe stopped behind me. "I'm here to inform you that you two will be the first test subjects, thanks to your military record we believe you can handle them, Mr.Morrison your tests will start tomorrow" the omnic finished, and then started to walk away. I was in disbelief, was I really starting so soon? "Wow, that was something, huh, you're the first test subject!" Gabe said as he put his arm around my shoulder. I was on a trance, really? The first one? "Hey, are you okay?" Gabe said starting to look worried. "Uh, Yeah, it just took me by surprise!" I responded. I wasn't lying, I mean, not completely, I was surprised but I was more scared than anything.

The next day I got called early. DAR14 took me by surprise when she knocked on the door to find me on my pajamas. To be fair nobody told me what time the tests started. I said bye to Gabe, who gave me a big hug and a 'good luck', and headed to the lab. Once I got to there I was taken to a room. It was big, dark and had a capsule on the center, it was spread horizontally, making it seem like a really fancy bed. There was a window on the left wall, leading to another room where all the scientists were. "Now, Mr. Morrison, if you may please take off your clothes and lay down" DAR14 said through a microphone. Suddenly the top half of the capsule swung to the side, making it able for me to lay down. I did as I was told. As soon as I was inside and laying down, the capsule closed itself and a voice from the microphone started to talk. "Test subject: Morrison, John, Soldier number: 76, experiment commencing in 3...2...1". A gas filled the chamber and I started to loose consciousness. Soon everything was black. It was like that for a few seconds until I could feel my senses start to kick in again. As i fluttered my eyes open I could feel that my muscles were numb. Everything was numb. As my vision started to get less blurry I was able to recognize the figure above me, it was DAR14. "Wh-where a-am I?" I struggled to say, since even my mouth felt numb. "You are still in the capsule 'Mr. Morrison, the experiment was a success!" She said. "Re-really?", I couldn't believe it, I wasn't dead! "Yes Mr. Morrison, now you may feel a little bit numb, that is totally normal" she said as she stretched her arm to help me up. I stood up and almost fell, but thanks to DAR14 I was able to keep my balance. I waddled to the table where my clothes darte and struggled to put them on. The numbness started to dissipate an I was able to walk. Before I got out of the room DAR14 stopped me. "Mr. Morrison, the testing of your new abilities will start tomorrow, so we recommend total rest, don't touch anything that isn't your bed" she said sternly. I was a little confused, but she was the expert on this so I had to do as I was told. I went back to my room, as soon as I knocked the door opened and I was greeted by the biggest bear hug from Gabe. "Jackie! I missed you, I thought something wrong had happened, I-" he said looking happier than ever to see me. I interrupted him, "wow, wow, wow, since when do you care about me so much?" I said giggling. He looked a little hurt, I was starting to feel bad. "Well, I did miss you, you were gone for so long that I got worried" he said looking a bit sad, I instantly hugged him. " It's okay, I missed you too" I said. He never showed me this side to me before, or to anyone for that matter, I felt touched. He suddenly started talking, "I mean, did you expect me to not get worried when you were gone for 10 hours". I almost choked on my saliva. "Wait, TEN HOURS! I said screaming. It was impossible, i was asleep for only a few seconds. "Yep, you really worried me" Gabriel responded. I had no time to think about this, I had to sleep. "Ugh, well, I have to sleep, doctor's orders" I said and grade for the bedroom. I got into bed and saw Gabe standing in the doorway. "Goodnight" he said with a caring smile in his face. I could only smile back. "Goodnight" I responded. I turned away from him and slowly drifted off to sleep.
