Cold

JACK's POV

Me and Gabe became close friends quickly. Actually, he was my only friend on the military. I also developed a huge crush on him. I always thought he would never return the feelings, he was to good for me, though I did pick up on some odd things that he did. For example, he would only be nice to me. Whenever he was with anyone else he'd put up this "tough guy" act, being cold and stern towards everyone, but when he was with me he would be nice and funny. He would be the true Gabriel, the one who would cry watching "telenovelas" in the middle of the night. Anyway, today I'm here to tell you about one of my most cherished memories with him. It was two years after we first joined the military, by that time Gabriel had already fully grown his beard. It wasn't anything special, just the standard bit of facial hair on the bottom half of his face. It did make him look very handsome though. We were assigned a very special mission, since we were considered two of the best soldiers. A government laboratory located on the Arctic requested backup for their security, since they had picked up some really strange, and possibly dangerous activity near them. Gabriel, me and two other soldiers were taken there to defend the area with the security staff if anything happened. We were assigned as pairs. Each pair had to watch out for strange activity near the base at a different time of day. Me and Gabriel were assigned the day shift, while the other two soldiers were assigned the night shift. Our shift started at 6:00 a.m and ended at 6:00 p.m, meaning we would have a good night sleep before duty. Me and Gabriel went to sleep at 6:30 p.m, on separate beds unfortunately. Neither of us were able t sleep for quite some time. Why? You ask, well, the reason why was because it was freezing. We felt as if we were going to die from the cold.

"Why the FUCK is it so cold in here!" Gabriel complained, trying to cover himself even more than he was now. "Gabe, it's the Arctic, what did you expect?" I said trying to sleep, but failing miserably. "Well, shouldn't it at least have some calefaction" he responded. "It does" I said, turning away from him. There were a few minutes of silence, until I heard Gabriel groan and get out of bed. I listened in confusion as his footsteps got closer to my bed. I turned around to see him. There he stood, shivering and looking down at me. "Gabriel, what are you doing?" I asked in conditions. Suddenly, he pulled the blankets away and climbed into bed with me. He hugged me close as he pulled the blankets back over us. Thank God the room was dark because I was probably blushing the deepest shade of red possible. "Gabriel, w-what...?" I was speechless. He sighed "You're so warm" he said a bit of satisfaction appearing on his voice. He wasn't wrong, the heat from our bodies together had destroyed all the coldness. I tried to protest but nothing came out of my mouth. I was so shocked, embarrassed, and...happy? I decided to drop it, and embraced Gabriel. Soon enough, we were snoring. I have to say, that was one of the best sleeps I ever had.
