they used to tell us
of the glory days ahead
about the grown up stuff and marshmallow fluff
our futures still unread
so i placed my dreams in a jar
built out of frozen tears
labeled it as, "fate-filled pizzaz,"
hoping it would bring me cheer
i was scared
of the novelties youth brought
questioned anything and everything
what love was, what i really sought
i wasn't exactly sure of my wants
didn't know what i was chasing
comfort in the pain of my childhood down the drain
racing, racing, racing
against an unknown force
streaks of red and blue
as i watched the wind bleed and fill me with ease
until i learned it was you
the one and only you
whose heart needed its' own island
velvet touch that felt too much
the rarest diamond
they used to tell us
of the glory days ahead
about the grown up stuff and marshmallow fluff
our futures still unread
but once i met you
excitement washed away the fear
destiny rose to defeat prose
my fate was made clear
it was tradition to worry for years on end
for i thought of the world as bizarre
yet when i look into your eyes time slows and dies
because forever is all you are
