I slowly trudge forward, all my clothes and belongings completely soaked, due to the harsh rain falling from the skies. I feel the coldness seep into my skin. I slightly quicken my pace, frantically looking around for a place that could suffice as a shelter. I keep walking and walking, only seeing trees around me. The low temperatures and the feeling of exhaustion are wearing me down, but my survival instincts keep me going. As I look to my left, I see a clearance a few meters away from me. I walk towards is and finally find the shelter I've been looking for: a cave.
I quickly get to work, put my bag down in the cave and start to gather some twigs and grass. After gathering them I put them on a pile and take a flint and steel out of my bag. I frantically try to light the fire, but it takes a lot longer than usual due to the twigs and grass being wet. Finally done with lighting the fire I sit back and look at the rain for a while.
Today was my first day of high school. My mum and dad decided to put me in school after my private teacher Ms. Wickerbottom retired. I was both excited and scared to start school, mainly because I've never gone to a public school before and I didn't know how the other kids would react. I started my day the same as I always did. I woke up at 6:00AM and took a shower. After my shower I got dressed, this time instead of wearing one of my dresses I had to wear my new school uniform. I went downstairs around 6:20AM and ate breakfast with my mum. Dad had already left for work. During breakfast mum told me that from now on I had to take the bus, that leaves at 6:50AM, to school. I nodded at her words and finished my breakfast. Going back upstairs to my room, I grabbed my backpack, which I already packed the evening before, said goodbye to my mother and headed outside towards the bus stop that was just around the block.
The bus arrived and I got in, taking a seat in the back. When I looked around the bus I noticed there were a few other students, dressed in the same uniform as me, who rode this bus to school. When the bus arrived at its third stop I got off. I looked at my watch and noticed that it was 7:10AM, which meant that the journey to school by bus took 20 minutes. I still had 20 minutes left before the lessons would start, so I decided to make my way to the headmaster's office to receive my timetable.
I entered the school and asked the janitor, who was cleaning the hallways, where the headmaster's office was. He told me the directions and I followed them to find myself standing in front of a big wooden door. I knocked on the door and heard a voice inside saying that I could enter. When I entered I saw a strict looking woman sitting behind a wooden desk. I told her I was the new student and asked for my timetable. She smiled kindly at me and handed it over to me together with my locker key. She also told me that if anything bad were to happen I should come to her. I thanked her and walked out of the office.
I looked at my watch and saw that it was 7:20AM, which meant I still had 10 minutes left. I decided to sit down and take a look at my timetable. I saw that all lessons were 60 minutes long and that I had 7 lessons today. The first two lessons of my day were mathematics. After that I had English and biology. There was a 30 minute lunchbreak between my fourth and fifth lesson. My fifth and sixth lesson were chemistry and my last lesson was physics. I turned the page around and saw a detailed map of the school's layout. I looked at my watch and saw that I still had 5 minutes left, so I decided to go to my locker to store my jacket and the books I didn't need today. After doing so I heard the bell ring and went to the classroom where I had mathematics.
When I arrived I quietly took a seat in the back of the classroom. The classroom gradually filled with students and so far no one had noticed me. When the teacher arrived she greeted the class and had me stand up and introduce myself to my classmates. After that the lesson started. My third and fourth lesson went similar to my first, the teacher came in, greeted the class and had me introduce myself.
When lunchbreak came around I headed to the canteen. When I entered the canteen I looked around to find a place for me to sit, when Wendy, a girl who sat beside me during English class, invited me to sit with her and her friends. I sat with them for the rest of lunchbreak and befriended them quite quickly.
The rest of the day wasn't very eventful. I went to my last three classes and after that I took the bus, that left at 3:10PM, home. When I arrived home it was 3:35PM, mum and dad were both still at work so I headed to my room to make my homework.
At 7PM my mum, who arrived back home sometime in the afternoon, called me downstairs for dinner. I ate together with mum and dad and told them about my day at school. After dinner I watched a movie with my parents. I found the movie, which had the title 'The little prince', very beautiful and sad. After the movie I went upstairs and wrote about my day. It's 10:30PM now, so I think I will stop writing.
My attention gets pulled away from the diary when a sudden gust of wind blows my fire out. I close the book and quickly spring to my feet to try to salvage what's left of the fire. After relighting the fire, which was even more difficult to do than the first time I had to light the fire, and making sure it won't get blown out again, I pick up the diary and look at it. The book has a brown leather cover with a willow tree on it. I put the diary back in my backpack and take a blanket out of it. I lie down on the ground and fall asleep beside the fire.
